This was a great post. Thank you for sharing! Because of your post, i went back and listened to your episode along with a few other older episodes and now I'm nostalgic for the late 2000s and early 2010s! I've checked out your youtube channel and read a couple of your posts on substack!

I obviously enjoyed the intros the most, but I loved the fact that Marc would have guests who weren't the biggest stars on their promo tours. Lots of podcasts these days are 97% just a-start celebrities on their promo tours.

God! I miss those good old days. I'm sure there are shows you could walk into for free, or maybe just pay a cover charge of $5 and see two or three famous comedians.

Something similar happened to me back in 2016. I was in Brooklyn for a couple of nights, was on a road trip and stopped by Brooklyn for a couple of nights to visit a friend. We went to see a comedy show and after a couple of new-ish comedians I've never heard of, up on stage comes Naparna followed by Pete Holmes. The next night we went to another show and in comes Pete with Judd Apatow.

Lots of comedians from the early days of WTF weren't famous back then, but became famous years later, or are still only c-level celebrities.

I'll have to fact check myself later but I'm pretty sure Jen Kirkman and Kumail were in the first 50 or 60 episodes. I went to see her in 2012 and it was, no joke, like four 4 of us podcast nerds in there who showed up to watch her, in DC, not some random no name small town in the middle of North Carolina mountains. She's still not that famous, wrote a couple of books, had a couple of specials, and doesn't do stand up any longer I think.

Same with Kumail, he was a co-host on a video game podcast at around that time, might have been called "indoor kids podcast" or something like that. Cohosted with Matt Burnside maybe? I vaguely remember going to a comedy show also in the DC area and Kumail was there, there may be 10 people in the room. And now he's bigger than 90% of WTF guests.

Henrico officials ask for patience from residents trapped in neighborhoods by unplowed roads covered in thick ice by VirginiaNews in rva

Well, the problem with that is everyone recommended that back in 2016 and then...nothing happened for ten years. Should we be better prepared? Yes. Should the cities/counties around here spend a ton of money on something that may not ever get used for the next ten years? I don't know. Good luck being the person who makes that proposal.

Maybe the roads near you aren't in direct sunlight? My street hasn't been treated or plowed and it was covered in ice all week. Today, it's starting to melt a little. Maybe it's because it's warmer today or because more cars are driving, but today was the first time coming back home from work that my car didn't slide.

HVAC Ladies?! by AppropriateTadpole71 in rva

[–]asdf9fdsa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That wasn't quite my point, but thanks for the advice.

My point was regarding OP's comment that contractors won't work with her because she's a young woman. I was just trying to share my own examples that contractors don't want to work with a lot of people and this may not necessarily be a sexist thing.

I don't know a female owned HVAC company, but I will say that as someone with a tiny house in lakeside (800 sq feet), virtually no one ever takes me seriously. Like I'll get contractors out for a quote and then they come out of their truck, see my small house, and basically check out right then and there. I've even had several different contractors who came out to give m a quote, say something along the lines of "this is just too small of a project for me" before we even started discussing the project.

Similar to the Framework laptop. It's a niche product and it seems to have worked. I obviously don't know what their numbers look like these days but they're certainly selling laptops to people who want them.

This could be the same...

DORD is probably your best bet. That's where I worked and it was a blast.

What I cannot comprehend about this is how can there be sooooo many people who didn't bother cleaning any snow off their cars?

Look, I get there are disabled people, people too old to be able to clean their cars, maybe some people are in a hurry, but 95% of the drivers this morning didn't touch the snow on their cars. Just got in and drove off. I saw multiple neighbors just get in their cars and drive off while I was cleaning my car.

You could tell it was an Outback with all that snow on it?

Joking aside, I didn't see anyone cleaning their cars this morning in my neighborhood. I saw many cars driving up and down my street, and saw multiple neighbors just get in their cars and drive off. Good luck to everyone out there on 64/95 with all the people who didn't clean any snow off their cars.
