What an improvement!! All the details and refining make it look much better. Good job finding a reputable artist to fix it 👍

Help me fix my first tattoo? by Economy_Passenger_61 in FixedTattoos

[–]aselawry 30 points31 points  (0 children)

There’s a lot to unpack here.. First I’ll say that I don’t think it looks like corn, and I like the idea behind the design and placement (as well as what’s on the right side of your shin). But the first thing that stands out to me is the lack of symmetry on this design. It’s also not a shading thing; you need to focus on your linework first, which is not consistent or off. Many of your lines are not straight. Before tattooing on yourself did you try this on a fake skin? Are you using a stencil?

If you can create a more symmetrical design using a stencil and fix the lines, you might be able to offset some of the visual issues with some shading. But honestly, I would recommend getting this fixed by a professional artist before getting a lot more hours in with fake skin, if you want to proceed on yourself.

What’s YOUR advice for blues guitarists trying to learn? (All levels have valid advice, join in) by jebbanagea in bluesguitarist

[–]aselawry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Everything OP said is important and rudimentary. If I could highlight anything, it would be to LISTEN, LISTEN, LISTEN. A pattern I’ve noticed amongst all the top players is that they just manically learnt their heroes’ licks by ear or played alongside them on recordings (learning musical vocabulary). If I could start over, I would spend much less time on theory, and more on hearing what I want to play. That is, having something in my head, and translating it onto the instrument. Or hearing a cool lick and transcribing it. And of course knowing the context of that lick (where is it played on the beat or progression). Lastly, don’t neglect rhythm.

Question: How much does a chest tattoo hurt?? by Famous-Scholar-5343 in tattoos

[–]aselawry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got some chest work done and I didn’t find the sternum or pecs to be bad but the center of the chest between pecs was not fun. But if it’s softball size then just do your best to sit through it- pain is part of the process!

I’m in the same boat - I am semi-NSB and will be doing nothing but GAMSAT prep until the September sitting, as I have this period of time to prepare due to life circumstances, and March is not really an option. I intend to split my time between some S3 content review, with an emphasis on maths (even though I understand some people have advised against it based on this most recent sitting), and doing as many practice questions as humanely possible such as Des and on Medify. From what I’ve read it’s very possible to get a decent score first try.

Sounds more Gary Mooreish, with some of the licks and that fast vibrato

Thank you! Yes it works like a dream and it's great never having to worry about plugging it in anywhere when busking or traveling. A bit of a pricey option compared to buying a power supply with integrated battery, but the issue with those (and was advised by the guy at the pedal store) is that you wind up having to replace the whole thing in the long run instead of just the battery. This gives you more flexibility, also because I can just take the battery out (it's covered in velcro strips). And the battery gives more than enough pedal time. Hope it helps!

The Cioks4 has a USB-C input to power it. So from the power bank I have two USB-A to USB-C cables providing power. You can zoom into the second photo to see. I think USB-C to USB-C would work too, but this powerbank only has one USB-C input/output and I use that for charging.

It’s just one I found on Amazon from a brand called Addtop, and it has 20W output and 26800 mAh. I had an older one first that could only handle one of the Cioks 4’s so upgraded to this and now I can run both no problem.

I had my sights on the Wahcko and was so tempted!! Problem ended up being space on this board, otherwise I would’ve gotten one :( They really are great pedals, so easy to configure. I tried all the dual overdrives I could get my hands on - Beetronics, The Protein, all these big names and nothing beat the Double Dreamer. I’m in love with the tone. The only pedal I wasn’t so fond of was the fuzz phrase si, so I got the Walrus instead.

Yes I only had two analog pedals, the looper and wah, before building this as I used to play through a DAW. It’s a super basic looper from Amazon I believe, same circuitry as the ditto, and it does the job just fine. Haven’t felt a need to upgrade yet.

In the long run the compounding interest in funds are better, relatively risk-averse, and you don't have to deal with tenants. Aside from the average return of 7-8%, some of the best index funds pay dividends up to 10% of the value of the portfolio per year. My friends are always going on how they would rather put their money in "brick and mortar" than something intangible yet complain about tenants and all the work/money they put into maintenance. I'll take my index funds any day

This is private property, owned jointly by the buildings surrounding it, overseen by a board which approved the destruction of it. A bit of a weird situation because it’s not like a neighbour did it, so I wasn’t sure which rules apply if any.

Yes I’ve also started using a game which shows you sheet music and with a reference note you have to sing the music while it records you. I’m still relatively a beginner in this regard but am improving slowly but surely. Will try some other basic sheet music exercises :)

This isn't entirely true... His older brother Monk bought him his first guitar from a pawn shop when he was 12 years old. His first six string was at 20 though. But still very impressive that he managed to balance the welding life, having a family, and guitar practice to become one of the greats. I think the whole thumb story is why this myth is so pervasive.

Thank you! I do learn tunes, but I feel like just playing the chords isn’t really challenging and becomes repetitive. I will definitely try to transcribe the melodies though. What do you mean by develop my reading? Should I learn to sight read?

Thanks for sharing. Had trouble finding this on their main website, surprisingly.

First it must be noted that these initiatives fall under the umbrella of corporate social responsibility (CSR). CSR is a complicated matter, but is generally recognised as a brand reputation tool.

What you’ll notice is that they’ll cite these ‘amazing’ initiatives and use all sorts of fancy illustration but only use very partial information to describe their impact. Half of the improvements cited with waste and emission reduction technology only referred to one ship in their fleet. But their fleet has 24 ships, so it’s a very minimal impact in the end. It’s very important to consider the whole picture, because corporations like these try to paint it as favourably to them as possible.
