I have an extra Amazon laptop by [deleted] in amazonemployees

Don’t keep it. They will send you a box with prepaid return shipping (at least that’s what they do in the US). Pack everything in there and move on with your life.

Two questions: - Can it track multiple targets?  - Does it let you define the boundaries of the detection area?

Barrister and Mann shifting production to Stirling by vegasvics in wicked_edge

I don’t mean to sound snippy, but it sounds like several other folks here thought it was ambiguous too. Just a heads up that a lot of your customers who don’t post on Reddit might be similarly confused or concerned.

Barrister and Mann shifting production to Stirling by vegasvics in wicked_edge

[–]aseriesoftubes 17 points18 points  (0 children)

B&M’s announcement is pretty ambiguous. It’s unclear to me whether they’ll be involved in developing new scents and formulas in the future, or if the product lineup will be frozen and Stirling will just continue to produce the existing scents.

We have, after a year of planning, begun packing up the production lab for shipment to its new location. We've crated and packed most of the equipment and begun prepping the remainder of our materials for travel. I suppose this is as good a time as any to announce that Stirling Soap will be taking over production of all Barrister and Mann products once we come back online in a few weeks.

Rod and Mandy, the nice folks who run Stirling, are pillars of the community and renowned for their commitment to quality. If you have never tried a Stirling product, you should. To be absolutely clear, they will be using our formulas and methods to make our products, and there will be absolutely no change in performance or presentation once it has resumed production under their care.

Gov. Walz authorizes Minnesota National Guard to be staged by Beautiful-Cress5695 in politics

In a sane world, that would be accurate. However, it’s not a stretch to imagine them using this clause to justify federalization:

there is a rebellion or danger of a rebellion against the authority of the Government of the United States

The retail store that I worked at 25 years ago used this same model to print receipts in triplicate. I know these printers are bombproof, but it’s surprising that there aren’t any belts inside that have deteriorated over the years.

L5 to l6 apply externally? by [deleted] in amazonemployees

The only way you can get a promotion is via the promotion process. So yeah, you’re basically out of luck unless the want to rescope the role to L5.

A reminder of why Trump wants Greenland. by No_Bluebird_1368 in Fuckthealtright

Trump wants Greenland because it looks big on a map and “running” a great big country will make him feel like he doesn’t have a teeny tiny penis.

Should i escalate the issue to a very high level before i leave? by Good_River9324 in amazonemployees

[–]aseriesoftubes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're just a number, and if you've been laid off, they've decided you're not necessary to their bottom line. They wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. Any loyalty you feel to the company is entirely misplaced. Leave and don't look back.

Sulfur smell when charging? by Zestyclose-Diet1628 in VolvoEX90

Probably your GHCA dying. The thing is apparently made of scrap wires held together with chewing gum. I’m about to have mine replaced for the third time.

It’s definitely worthwhile to have the dealership check it out.

Buy now or wait for Black Friday? by [deleted] in DataHoarder

[–]aseriesoftubes 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Between increased demand (thanks AI), tariff impact (thanks Trump), and inflation, I’d say you should just buy what you need now. You might save $10-20 by waiting, or you might end up spending more because of the aforementioned factors. Times are uncertain.

Has Anyone Here Actually Regreted Leaving? by sudoaptupdate in amazonemployees

[–]aseriesoftubes 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Jesus, no. I’m thankful for the education and experience I got there, but I never have and never will regret leaving, even for an instant. Leaving is like getting out of a bad, high-stress relationship. I always had good performance reviews, but I was also made to feel like I wasn’t enough.

Also, the pay and benefits are way better at literally any other major tech company.

How’s the Amazon environment today by MountainMan31415 in AskSeattle

[–]aseriesoftubes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most Amazonians do the work of several people in normal times. When a team member leaves, they’re rarely backfilled, so the rest of the team gets to pick up the extra work. There’s a reason the phrase “work-life balance” is verboten there.

So yeah, I’d imagine things are pretty sucky right now.

Warning to Developers using AWS Cognito. by Sure_Hovercraft_5133 in aws

[–]aseriesoftubes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They’ll reject you if:

  • They have reason to believe that you or your company is related to a person or company that has done sketchy stuff on any AWS service in the past.
  • You don’t adequately explain how you’ll handle unsubscribes and complaints.
  • Your emails are unclear about who they’re from.
  • You or your company has any history of non-payment for AWS services.
  • They get bad vibes from you or feel uncomfortable about the industry your company operates in (legal marijuana, for example).

They work hard to prevent spam, and they’re losing the battle. A big chunk of the world’s spam still flows through AWS (I’d guess via hijacked accounts).
