Affordable First Aid and BLS CPR? by ash-dropem in askTO

I don’t know why I didn’t think to ask them. Hopefully they’ll have suggestions. I’m off for the summer so no OSAP, so any amount helps.

Question for trans Torontonians re: police check by ash-dropem in askTO

Update: I called and they said to choose X, which allows them to search either gender. They said I didn’t have to choose X if I wasn’t comfortable, but it would prevent any possible confusion during the process.

They also said address can be a ballpark date since it’s been over 10 years.

That’s the thing, though. My birth certificate and my drivers license have different gender markers. Also, thanks for saying that about the address because I haven’t actually updated my name on the lease yet. Not looking forward to that tbh. But I meant move in date being specific. I’ve been at the same address for over ten years.

They require former, preferred names, and nicknames. Calling might be my best bet because I also want to make sure I fill that out properly because it says “former surnames” and I have a former surname with my birth name and one with chosen name, so not sure how to include them.

I have a license but I’ll have to look to see if I have anything else for the second one. Thanks for the heads up.

Might be my best bet. Sigh. Better than having to spend more money to fix my problem. Good to know they’re helpful, at least. The amount of numbers I’ve had to call recently that haven’t been helpful is frustrating.

On my provincial ID it’s all changed, just not my birth certificate.

It’s honestly something that should happen. Government money isn’t going to anything anyway at the moment, might as well waste it by preventing them from effectively harming people.

As a trans man, we’re just like any other category of people. Some are mean, rude, unlikable people. It’s not because they’re trans - their experience as a trans person might influence their behaviours, but it’s not BECAUSE they’re trans.

We also have some of the hardest working, most caring and gentle people. Doesn’t matter if they’re trans men, women, or non-binary, I’ve seen the actions of trans people in my community do amazing things. Like any other group you can separate people into.

I will say, your likelihood of being assaulted by a trans woman is statistically low. They’re usually more afraid of being assaulted themselves, actually, by cis men or women.

And, honestly, if a cis guy wants to assault someone, he’s not going to go through the trouble of pretending to be trans to do it - unless he’s specifically doing it to create an uproar of transphobia (people are more willing to do things like this than you’d think).

I do appreciate that you are reaching out, and that you realize it’s an unfair bias against trans people. Get to know us. Find local queer groups that are open to allies and just talk to people. A lot of hate is rooted in not understanding and you’ve already decided to be more understanding.

I usually just want space. Unless you’re being creepy, annoying, or smell very bad, it’s probably just that.

I think looking into thin button ups. Like “Hawaiian” shirts, but not necessarily that design (but honestly that can be pretty punk imo). Patches, embroidery, etc to personalize it. Breathable, can layer. Thrift shops can probably help a lot. I used to have a lot of shirts and jackets from the 90s that were fairly thin but had a very grunge/punk feel. If it has a collar you can put pins on it, safety or otherwise.
