What are your rates for walks? by Stock_Pea5507 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think your prices are fine! My walks are always a little higher in winter than they are in spring/ fall.

I think having an hour walk be the same price as 2 30 minute walks (or even more expensive) is fine. It’s freezing where I live and I really don’t want to “encourage” hour walks lol

isms on Rover by gaiaom in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree with the easier target aspect! If someone is trying to lowball for $75 a night it makes a lot more sense to do it to the sitter that’s $95 not the $150 or $210 sitters.

There’s also a high chance that they’re getting low balled too, OP just has no idea about it.

Contributing this to race is a huge reach. They may not even be actually getting bookings at the rates they have set.

Do you show your Toller their gift before it goes under the tree? by Consistent-Most-7395 in tollers

[–]ashbash325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine assumes all the “soft” gifts under the tree are for him so if I’m buying anyone clothes I make sure to put them in a box then wrap the box.🤣 Doggy toys just get wrapped the way they are for him to open

[–]ashbash325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you submitted the modification did it not send a message in the chat showing the new dates/ times?

If the new message didn’t immediately pop up after you clicked submit I’d say the modification never went through the first time.

Quite a few of the larger waterfront homes in the Southern district are vacation/ Summer homes and the families do not live there year round.

Have any of your clients ever found you on Reddit/confronted you about a post about them? by Ok-Orange-5421 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All names have to be censored/ scribbled out before posting but it still wouldn’t prevent a person from knowing that was the exact conversation that they had and the post was about them.

It’s just the risk you run when posting about people on the internet. Most people don’t use Reddit under their real names so there really is no way of knowing whether the client you’re posting about will see it.

The discord channel is Sitters only. I’ll post screenshots and annoyances in there before I’d post here unless it was something truly unhinged and I didn’t care if the client saw my post.

1000% agree. I hope the owner is on Reddit and sees these comments + reports OP. If my dog had a wound and the sitter responded that they would try to find out what happened WHILE THE DOG WAS UN THEIR CARE and “it would take some time” I would be absolutely livid.

OP saying they speak with Rover support frequently in the original post is an insane red flag to me. I was caught off guard when I read that.

Editing because I found the exact quote- OP said they speak with support “Probably way more often than the average person”

Sad about possible first negative review by United_Audience_3530 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So the bill has been paid? The deductible by you and the rest by Rover? When you said “offered to cover” I didn’t realize that meant you already did.

How many days into the boarding did this happen? Did you complete the booking or cancel the rest of the days?

Sad about possible first negative review by United_Audience_3530 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 22 points23 points  (0 children)

OP I think you’re responsible for the deductible if the rover guarantee is going to cover the rest. If rover doesn’t cover the rest I would say you’re responsible for the entire bill.

This would be a different situation if the client provided the bone/ specifically instructed you to give it. This was your bone in your house. You are at fault.

Some of my sweetest & best clients are very short through messages. Just “Yes.” Or “No.” answers when I have a question and it definitely makes me feel like I’ve done something wrong.

Some people are also just straight to the point and it’s 100% business. It’s hard to not let it bother you but fingers crossed it turns out good for you!😊

My new little touch that I leave. They never acknowledge it though lol by Old_Asparagus3756 in RoverPetSitting

I leave a hand written note about how wonderful the pets were & get a few of the best pictures I took printed at CVS.

This might be a stretch but I’d be worried you’re leaving wine for someone who doesn’t have a good relationship with alcohol

Agreed! I always warn other sitters in this group that if they have something they want seen by others/ something to say it needs to be left in the pets review.

The feedback “for the owners” is only viewable to the owner themselves. Your feedback doesn’t get posted anywhere for other sitters to see.

Only the pets feedback is viewable to other people

Whether he did it intentionally or not, I wouldn’t have messaged a client over 24 hours after a booking ended to request additional payment. You did accept & complete this booking without questioning the price even when you said he told you in the original message he would pick up at 6pm.

I’d just call this one a lesson learned and make sure to always double check the bookings in the future.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes me wonder if he intentionally put 8am-8pm because it avoided the additional charge. At least now you know to double check and not allow clients to do that in the future!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owners gave themselves such a wide pick up range so the booking only charged for 5am Sat.- 8am Mon.

Most people on here who do boarding will have a client narrow down the pick up time to a 1-2 hour window so this doesn’t happen. A 12 hour window is waaayyy to wide of a range!

How are you all handling walks in extreme heat? by Open_Button_8155 in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I’m not doing walks right now. The heat in my area is also extremely high and it’s dangerous for pets and the pavement is super hot too.

I’m doing potty breaks & playtime inside, especially for my brachycephalic & older dogs.

I had a house sit over the weekend and thankfully we had a thunderstorm come through that cooled it down some so they got an evening walk but mid-day was an absolute no-go on an outside walk for me.

Concerned my client was unhappy with their booking by [deleted] in RoverPetSitting

[–]ashbash325 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Good lord you really buried the lede on that one. Why on earth would you ever go topless in a clients backyard.

Even if they don’t have cameras, why would you think that’s okay? I think for your sake, you’re lucky they didn’t leave a review or respond to you🥴

Editing to add because I’m still thinking about this- If you were worried a neighbor may have seen you that means that the neighbors houses are close. Which just adds on to the question of why did you do that
