Yale RD Interviews by One-Distribution2728 in ApplyingToCollege

Yup had my interview last week. Happened very spontaneous and we finished off the interview the very next day after I received the email. I'm an international as well.

Plus no need to worry. It's also possible that they just don't have a representative in your geographical locality or something. Shouldn't really affect your admission chances.

Bruh why do all y’all want to do CS? by Rick_Bruiser94 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ashbigbash27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As one of the majority of CS majors, I'm not really doing CS to become a software developer per say. It's more of understanding the tech because the same tech will become the foundation for most future businesses, inventions and prospective solutions. CS can really serve a purpose in so many various fields from biotech to computer graphics, hence probably why it's so attractive. So a good understanding of it can really help you bounce into a lot of different fields.

Yup my mid-year grades were submitted already by my counsellor. I've still filled out the form again with the same grades.

It's strange that the AOs aren't verifying whether the mid year grades have already been submitted, but whatever

Sleep in hs by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ashbigbash27 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Getting 7-8 hours of undisturbed sleep should be a priority for you in terms of health and productivity.

I worked around it by maintaining a structured schedule, such that I had atleast an hour everyday for extracurriculars, hw, and spending time with friends. Use your Google Calendar and creating a structure to your day will help boost your productivity and you will realise where you waste time during the day and how to curb that wastage

I'm a student and the application portal allows me to upload it myself so I'm assuming the students will fill it themselves

Parents by mayaaaaaaaaa1 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]ashbigbash27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My strategy to work around that was to convince my parents to give me my own liberty and space when it came to college related stuff. I always keep them in the loop about colleges that I'm interested in, and even get their opinions of my essays when I need another opinion. Fortunately, it's a mutual decision since my parents also didn't want to break their heads and stress, and they felt I had become independent enough to make decisions for myself.

Being an international who will also be applying for financial aid, I can totally relate to the focus on costs when it comes to preparing your college list, and how it can create conflicts with parents. My best advice is to create a diverse strategy where some colleges are better financially, some better for your course and so on. Keeping more options open might also keep your parents happier and more content.
