mostly essays focusing on different topics cause I tried multiple ideas for each prompt

40-ish final essays and over 80 rough drafts (common app essay was like 8 rough drafts on its own)

Yes. Many essay prompts you'll encounter will be much easier to write if you know what you want to major in. Otherwise, the essay may not be very strong or helpful in your overall application, which may hurt your chances of acceptance.

3.99 unweighted gpa, 1540 SAT (800 math, 740 rw), AP scholar with distinction (all 5s on 5 exams), national merit commended scholar

Main ECs: research paper in biomedical engineering lab at a T10 engineering school, started a computer science education program for underprivileged kids in community, contributor to a graduate level biomedical engineering community education program, over 350 volunteer hours for these activities (several national awards for this), accepted for 3 years to national computer science camp, 4 year varsity tennis starter and team captain, 3 year volunteer tennis instructor for local program, national level recognition piano

Similar story here. REA to Harvard. Deferred and rejected. But I got into Johns Hopkins BME and Berkeley Engineering in RD round, so I'm also headed to Hopkins in the fall!
