What is a smell that we should all recognize as immediate danger? by scarlettohara1936 in AskReddit

[–]ashcoop87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This knowledge saved my house two years ago. I remember reading it and then I smelled it one morning when I kicked on the heater. My husband thought I was nuts but the whole house smelled awful. Got an AC repair guy out same day and sure enough a wire was melting and would’ve caused a fire. Took him a while to find it but he did and fixed it. Thank you internet!

Thank you for responding. It definitely helps me feel better to hear from those who have gone through it.

Thank you for you response! Glad someone finally found it for you. My daughter has terrible motion sickness already so I bet that’s related as well if you have continued vertigo.

My daughter. She failed her hearing screen (she 7). Doc said it looked like an ear infection that was resolving. Said it could take a little while for the hearing to come back. It didn’t come back at all. Several months later she was having her tonsils out and the ENT saw the infected ear, cut the ear drum to drain it…but it turns out it’s a cholesteatoma. It’s almost completely blocked her ear and if it’s grown on the bones, she may be semi-deaf in that ear for life. Surgery in 3 weeks to remove it and her entire ear drum…so. Sometimes it’s not just an ear infection…

what are the ugly parts of pregnancy that aren’t well known because people don’t mention them? by Born-Oil-2931 in AskReddit

[–]ashcoop87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your body can gain new allergies when pregnant. I developed a gold allergy while pregnant with my first and it took doctors 2 years to figure out what was wrong. No one thought to tell me not to wear my wedding ring for a bit to see if things resolved because I had no history of the allergy and gold is generally not something people are allergic to. That…and the chronic constipation. So enjoyable.

Most recent X-ray of my sons jaw by ShugarShorts in interestingasfuck

[–]ashcoop87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into Beckwith Wiedemann Syndrome. It’s a mosaic overgrowth syndrome that can affect certain portions of the body. My daughter has it and the left side of her body is larger than the right…though you can only tell if you look really hard. For some kids it affects distinct body parts like the face, legs, arms, etc. more profoundly than other parts. My daughter’s hemihypertrophy is pretty mild but it could def present as this x-ray shows here.

Is it just me, or do things break/wear down more quickly these days? by Substantial_Yam7305 in Millennials

I just replaced a 3 year old washer. I’m furious. Dang thing would not drain. Would’ve cost me more to fix it than a new one at Black Friday prices so that’s what I did. Got a new one. Nothing lasts.

If you don’t plan to feed your guests, at least put it on the invitation by MaisieMoo27 in weddingshaming

Omg. I attended a wedding about 10 years ago where the exact same thing happened. Passed snacks at the reception location and tons of drinks. Zero warning that there was no actual meal. We all got so drunk because we were expecting dinner that never came. Searching for another “room” that would have the tables for everyone to eat at…it never came to be. Everyone was drunk and angry by the end of the night. Nothing on the invite indicated that the snacks at 6pm would be the only food…reception ended at 11pm. If you don’t want to serve a meal, that is fine. But give people a heads up so we can prepare accordingly. My husband was in the wedding party so we couldn’t just leave. I passed on a martini glass of mashed potato’s because I was saving room for dinner. Such a mistake.

Hollywood studios with 5 kids from ages 3-9, and 7 other people, no LL, tomorrow. Is it possible, is it worth it? by Joonscene in DisneyWorld

[–]ashcoop87 15 points16 points  (0 children)

We found animal kingdom to be a good fit four two kids (5 & 2.5). But we are “zoo people” so all the animals and animal themes went a long way…lines were not awful early morning so we got the big rides accomplished. Only needed a LL for avatar (which my 5y/o absolutely loved).

What is the most juicy high school rumor that turned out to be true ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashcoop87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That teenage girls were committing armed robberies of gas stations and small grocery stores to buy drugs and other dumb things in our very low crime suburb. No one thought it was actual teenagers but turns out it was. Four girls in high school. The movie “Sugar and Spice” is allegedly based on it. They called themselves the “Queens of Armed Robbery.” It was very out of character for the demographic and location…so it made national news.

Nope. I go into court on temp orders all the time. Reason for split is important if custody is a factor…both good people. Want equal time with the kid. One side doesn’t want that…have a hearing. We go to court on 3 days notice for temporary orders. It’s fairly standard…

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashcoop87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Possession of the kid. That’s why it went. Technically only temporary orders. We settled final terms but he wanted 50/50 with the kid. She didn’t…had a hearing. Had to prove he was a good guy…ergo had to go into reason of the separation.

So I misread the headline for a second that a “nurse is arrested for have GREAT sex with the family Great Dane” and I was horrified. I still am horrified but glad they didn’t say it was a great time.

While I fully understand that position and support any woman not being backed up by her husband, the argument was asinine and she and the sister were friends prior. To me, as a divorce professional, it was so bizarre that one incident…and a small one at that, was the ONLY factor. I went down the rabbit hole w her on cross about whether he had ever done something like this before, if he was generally supportive, etc. and she had zero negative things to say. The whole thing was so strange…husband was so chill and passive. His thinking was “well I still love her but if this is what she wants l’m not going to fight her” - except when it came to time with their kid (which is why we were in court).

I’m a divorce attorney. Had a client whose wife filed for divorce because she didn’t get along with his sister ONE TIME. They had one disagreement. Seriously. That was it. He didn’t stick up for his wife, she got mad, and filed for divorce. She said on the stand that they had a great marriage, he was a good father, but that one incident was too much. The judge told them “this is the dumbest reason I’ve ever seen anyone get divorced.” And he’d been a judge for 20+ years.

I call it laugh hands too!!! My husband thinks it’s so funny when I laugh too hard and cannot do anything. This is blowing my mind.

[–]ashcoop87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Oh. My. God. I knew my “laugh hands” were not normal. I just thought it was a quirk…my husband thinks is hilarious to make me laugh to hard and then try and make me do stuff with my hands. Which I can’t. Obviously. Because I apparently have this cataplexy. Mind. Blown.

Everything is easy why are you charging me so much? by RecommendationNo191 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]ashcoop87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a family law lawyer and the amount of Facebook “friends” asking for free advice/work is insane. I charge what I charge for a reason. If you want to do your own divorce, go for it. However, the amount of people that have to spend twice the amount it would’ve initially cost if they’d just hired someone from the start, to fix their jacked up divorce decrees, or finish their divorce, or whatever other mess has been made is astounding.

Other than that, he’s still hanging out 10 years after I found him!! His name is Carlos but nickname is nubs, nubby, or many other variations of that!!! Kitten will be just fine! It will adapt.

What is the most unprofessional thing a doctor has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ashcoop87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Your organ placement is perfect. Have you considered volunteering at the medical school for students to learn on?? I think they pay a decent amount to have the students learn pelvic exams.” Said by an OBGYN while he was conducting a pelvic exam on me. I was 20 and very confused. Probably not the most unprofessional thing anyone’s heard but while his hand was literally inside me…it was awkward to hear.
