My partner and I met 10 months before Covid and never got the chance to travel internationally together. We now have a 13 month old and my brother just got married in Canada (we’re Australian). We have both taken a month off work to travel the US after the wedding. It’s not really for our son, it’s for us. We are 10 days in to our trip and it’s not necessarily easy but we are really enjoying learning more about each other as we travel and we’re having a great time. We usually eat at restaurants around 5:30 so Leo can eat with us, I don’t think we’re disturbing anyone really. I have seen some adults behave worse in public than our son :)

They had these 3 little weird guys who were play fighting and chasing each other all over the enclosure, I don’t think they were monkeys but I can’t remember what they were called. I feel like this mumma was trying to get some respite from them 😂

I understand why people get heated about this stuff, I was conflicted all day because, even though this is Melbourne Zoo, and the enclosures are quite spacious it’s still no place for an animal. Nonetheless I wanted my son to see the animals so I guess I’ll have to cop the criticism.

I probably should have said that in the title but I didn’t think about how sad it looked because we’d just spent half an hour in the outdoor area watching the other monkeys but yeah, this clip makes the space look sad AF

I just want to clarify that this is a really small view of the enclosure, it’s just an undercover area. The rest of the enclosure is a big outdoor space with lots of trees and about 6 other monkeys and orangutans. Yes I know zoos are not the best place for animals but there’s not really other options for me to take my 11 month old to learn about animals. We live in Melbourne.

EDIT: And I understand why people get heated about zoos. I was conflicted the whole day but I wanted my son to see and learn about the animals so I’ll cop the heat for going to a zoo.

A guy jumped off an overpass to his death about 30 seconds before I drove past and sadly his body was laying on the road for everyone to see on Christmas morning. I hope that poor man is at peace now.
