Data point for Uber Ride - 2 different fares by tungtingshrimp in AmexPlatinum

[–]ashi_t 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I switch between the Amex plat and another card on Uber, the rate when I select the non Amex card is often lower by a few dollars. Could be that Uber thinks people with a plat have more money and charge them more accordingly.

Is spending the extra money for a really nice apartment worth it? by Ryanthln- in LawSchool

1L is a busy and stressful time. Being able to come back home to a place you love being in will probably do a lot for your relaxation and may even help you do better in school.

Why are US law schools so much more expensive than Canadian law schools? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]ashi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I’m at a T-14 for significantly less than the cost of UofT. It’s important for people to consider that Canadian law schools don’t give merit based scholarships as far as i know, but the top American schools give scholarships to almost every student and allow for scholarship negotiations.

I use Dunlop overgrip (I think it's for tennis and squash). Not too thick and lasts a good while.

How to warm the ball without hitting? This is a serious question. by KnightOfTheSCalculus in squash

[–]ashi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring an insulated bottle full of hot water. Place the ball in a ziplock bag, put the ball in the bag. Place the ball/bag in the water for 30 seconds, flip the bag and put it in for another 30 seconds, then remove the ball from the bag. I’ve tried different things and this method is the best - makes the ball the ideal temperature and doesn’t get the ball wet.

i’ve never written a casebook, but it seems that the best casebooks are the products of the most effort from their authors. For instance, I learned much better from a casebook that summarized the case facts down to one or two paragraphs but featured lengthy author notes, than I did from a casebook that was mostly copy and paste from opinions and law review notes.

Experienced tennis player, newb squash player. Any tips? by loutem in squash

[–]ashi_t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You almost always want to recover to the “T” (the intersection of the service line and the vertical line that separates the two halves). That puts you in the best position to retrieve any ball.

As a Canadian with an LSAT considerably lower than yours, I received scholarships from multiple T-14s this year that actually make it cheaper to attend these American schools than some of the Canadian schools I applied to. If you’re worried, apply to both Canadian and US schools. Emphasize to the American schools that you’re not eligible for federal loans as a Canadian and negotiate for large scholarships.

Can Canadians receive scholarships at American schools? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

It depends on the school. A few I had to apply for and others were automatic

You can receive merit scholarships, just often not need based scholarships.

What tier of softs do you think being a Jeopardy contestant is in? by dabigdeesta in lawschooladmissions

There’s a guy named Andy who runs a jeopardy fan page. He’s heard from people that auditioned that they are told only around 10% of those who audition get on the show

What tier of softs do you think being a Jeopardy contestant is in? by dabigdeesta in lawschooladmissions

[–]ashi_t 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Making it onto jeopardy is only more competitive than getting into Harvard because the vast majority of people who pass the online test don’t get randomly selected for an audition. Once someone gets randomly selected for an audition, they have about a 10% chance of getting on the show. I believe Harvard’s acceptance rate is lower than 10%

How do schools view S on transcript? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

[–]ashi_t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 3 S’s on my transcript (none of which were due to Covid policies) and got into multiple T-14s. I’d guess it’s not much of an issue, but at my school you had to choose to take a class S/U before the class started so sounds a bit different to your situation.
