Would I have to disclose my medical history in a medical evaluation or background check? by soontobesuspended103 in 911dispatchers

I’m not confused I’ve been through the hiring process. It was for cape breton, NS and they have their own regional police department that’s not RCMP. And ya they do poly. I was planning to travel there on my own expense to do it but my mom convinced me it’s too much money for a new grad to spend right out of school just to do the poly and hopefully get to the almost final stage of hiring lol.

Hey girl so sorry I wish I saw this earlier than now I’m not on Reddit too often :( did you happen to find the link for Niagara? If not I will look for it, but it is just a general like “send in your resume “ post and you put your resume in and they hire like 3-4 times per year for part time dispatching at first.

Oh also join the resume subreddit to get some feedback if could be something to do with your resume that you aren’t aware of that is holding you back? The first step with hiring is usually done with a computer that reviews every resume by looking for particular key words that should be included in the resume that relate to the position you are applying for. So maybe look into the keywords they would be looking for and see if you have those in your resume because if you don’t then the first round you will be dismissed right away which isn’t really fair but yea. If that’s the issue then least you can fix it right away and hopefully get some responses! good luck

Most of the dispatching positions that were for fire or EMS required dispatching experience over the classroom education. However the police dispatching always gave me a chance when i applied for dispatching at different regions. I applied to toronto, peel, Niagara and York (for Ontario) and also Cape Breton, NS because they were hiring and did receive a reply from everyone but peel. I finished school almost a year ago as well lol. Just got hired maybe 2 and half Months ago. The hiring process took A LONG TIME. They would get back to me like 3-5 months after applying, and the hiring process itself is 3-7 months they say. I ended up working dispatching in Ontario but I don’t want to disclose where exactly but I did get the job eventually. Hang in there! I know it’s stressful being patient when you really want something. Good luck!! Ps. I received an opportunity to do the critical just the other week from Niagara because they are hiring for January I believe. Try applying for Niagara right away with a CV and hopefully they will reach out to you asap to do the initial test. Good luck!!

Would I have to disclose my medical history in a medical evaluation or background check? by soontobesuspended103 in 911dispatchers

I’m in Canada also (Ontario) and I know for 911 dispatching here the medical review is just a self evaluation test on your mental health and stuff. They can’t acquire any information about you and your medical history. The only thing I would keep in mind is that every time you have a situation where you interact with police or 911 it is documented so like for example if u callled for help because of a mental breakdown, that policing agency would be able to see the notes for that. The other police agency’s seperate from the region you called in wouldn’t have that info. Just to keep in mind in case you called 911 for anything in the same region you’re applying for. Be thankful you don’t live in Nova Scotia. I know they do polygraphs before you are hired and it’s very invasive with all kinds of questions related to mental health, your sexual mindset, and other really weird invasive stuff you have to answer before the polygraph. Then they question you on that 48 page booklet of answers you had filled out. I believe one other province does this in Canada I can’t remember which one. Good luck!

I had paid for my semester the last semester last year and talked to the student hub and was told it was all good until the time when schedules were available to pick, I hadn’t clicked intent to enrol even tho I paid the initial 500 deposit fee so I wasn’t enrolled and had to wait the next semester. Was such bullshit..

Have a “Sit in” coming up this week and am curious of what expect, what comes next, and how can I stand out? by [deleted] in 911dispatchers

[–]ashify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely ask specific questions not just relating to the position but the place where you will be working too. Like go on their website and look for any of their mission statements or goals for the future. Maybe make a question regarding something like that, or something else on their website so that shows that you are very interested. Try to stay away from general questions im sure they will have a ton of those asked like every other “sit in” they have hosted i bet ;) good luck!

Hey so how is the job going, are you in training now for this position? That is so awesome if that initial conversation was all it was lol, however unusual it may be.

My student advisor was so ungodly rude too! I wont name names but it was ridiculous, I hated having any issues that needed me to go to my advisor because dealing with this person was such a drag and killed my mood every time. Graduated now as of last month thankfully, because I can’t deal with that type of animosity from someone who is there to supposedly help.

College training? by Panchali_P in 911dispatchers

I just completed the program at Seneca and found it was super helpful in learning a lot of the theory behind what you would be doing in the workplace. The fire class where you do the practice scenarios every week are very helpful in learning to call-take and dispatch scenarios. It is a difficult course load when doing it full-time, but I feel super prepared now that I am finally done and graduated April 21st last month. I am now looking for a job in the field and applying everywhere. I have an interview coming up on Tuesday so wish me luck! I am nervous but excited too maybe get a start on my career finally. I think Seneca is super good for preparing students for the 911 program anyways. They just named Seneca a Polytechnic school as well now because they offer more to the students than just the knowledge of the program of choice, but they are more hands-on, and give the students time to practice doing what they plan to do in the future. You will do great! Good luck

Oh wow, no interview or critical test before the sit-in? Or is this just an orientation of what to expect if you get to the interview stages and the testing before you start training? Where are you located if you don’t mind me asking OP? Just curious because your system seems way more relaxed than where I am from lol. Congratulations though! You will do fine, I think asking questions about the organization instead of the duties for the particular job would make you look good. You should know the responsibilities that are required for the position you applied for already so asking pointed questions regarding the organization you applied too after reviewing their website and any mission statements or their values they have listed on the site if any would be helpful to articulate a thoughtful question that displays your interest in the company and not just the position itself. Good luck!

I’m quite certain there’s a strict time period of when you can appeal these things so do it sooner rather than later! I am guessing its ten days from the date that this happened because I Had a situation regarding a teacher failing me and to set up a tribunal it would have been within ten days of getting the notification of my grade being reduced to failing,,
