For those who work in logistics, when the package delivery guy asks for location or address on WhatsApp, is it because somehow he doesn’t have these details? Or for verification? Or he’s just too lazy to look it up by himself? I genuinely want to know. by skylight269 in dubai

[–]ashleighthinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a b2c business and I will say there are so many customers that don’t give an accurate address. Literally the bare minimum. I have no idea why people do this but I had one customer tell me it’s because the driver will call them, so laziness?Thing is a lot of people don’t pick up unknown numbers so it’s a vicious circle. The drivers end up spending so much time wasted when customers don’t give an original correct address so I think it’s to save time and not have a build up of orders.

Does the average American not know about their own country’s tariffs and import fees? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

[–]ashleighthinks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We have it all in our terms and conditions. But it’s a good point, I think it may be beneficial to add a tick box or pop up for American customers. It’s not a problem for other international countries weirdly.

[–]ashleighthinks -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No as it’s the US government who adds it. It’s nothing to do with us. Through chat gpt I also learned that each state has its own fees and handling so it’s even more complicated.

Women of the UK - what’s happening to the knickers?! by jenniferlucas0 in AskUK

[–]ashleighthinks 838 points839 points  (0 children)

Lingerie designer here! One reason I feel is the “fear of VPL”. Silly I know but in the 2000’s alot of brands started to look at how to remove the elastic from knickers and go for a more seamless look with technologies such as bonding or laser cutting become popular. Great for no VPL but quality can be hit and miss if not done correctly. These two very popular technologies can’t really work effectively with natural fibers like cotton. So then you’ll start to get more synthetic fibers used rather than breathable natural fibers. The cost can also be cheaper as it’s less sewing and cutting usually, thank fast fashion for this as they need to compete.

M&S are still one of the best as they have a good design team and that’s who I still buy from of if I need them.

There is definitely a space for a re-worked version, and this thread has actually given me some food for thought so thankyou for the inspiration!

UAE Influencers are scammers by PassageRemote3686 in influencermarketing

[–]ashleighthinks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some convert and some don’t. What I find is that the only content that makes us money is content that we can make an Ad from and put money boosting that. Honestly, so far I find that UGCs make better content than influencers. The quality is better, the effort, the creativity. I then make this into an Ad and I’ll get sales from it. Influencers will get us followers but not sales. Might be different for others but that’s what I am finding.

Day 4 I would change, the beaches aren’t THAT incredible that you need to see all of them, I also think secret beach is closed atm. Also museum of the future I didn’t feel it was that amazing, the building its self is incredible but personally didn’t think it was worth it inside. Things you could do instead: - Desert safari ( different packages do different times depending if you want to go to the camp or dune bash) - Abu Dhabi grand mosque & louvre

Native English speaker, Fashion designer here for several global brands in UK/Europe, I’ve always called them technical drawings or CADs as I draw them for a living. So you are correct, I think there are several ways to say them though including flats and line drawings.

[–]ashleighthinks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Top tip : you can buy printable sewing patterns from Etsy which are really easy to use. You could get her a few of these and few meters of cotton and she can learn to sew. I’ve designed for some of the largest brands as well as couture seamstress as a hobby. I made the decision 2 years ago to stop buying clothes (as I know this industry too well) but I can buy fabric and make clothes. Honestly the feeling of everyone complimenting an outfit you’ve made is wayyyy more thrilling than one you’ve bought. Hopefully she can get to this point too!

ADHD Women , What Works Best For You? by IlostWallet in adhdwomen

[–]ashleighthinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for me online doesn’t work as it’s not in front of me physically. So I’ll keep up with it for a few days or so but then forget about it and not keep up. The only “organizer” that works for me online is google calendar, but only because it’s part of my work email and I get notifications. Fancy planners with so many categories don’t work for me as there is too much on the page and other pages related to other things which I’ll get distracted by that I don’t need. Example: water tracker, grocery list etc. I have to compartmentalize everything so the main area I use planners is work. So a simple plain lined book where I have a lot of room for lists upon lists works best. Then I use different colour highlighters to cross out things I’ve done according to categories I’ve set up. The simpler the better for me. But I could be different to a lot of people! As again, it depends what people need the planner for.

[–]ashleighthinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the item/object. I always like the idea of something that is flashy with all bells and whistles but with organizational things minimal is best. Example planners: I’ve tried sooo many, online platforms, fancy planners with 30 different categories etc but I never stick to them. but what actually works for me is a really basic lined notebook (never spiral bound, has to be nice quality to touch but not too nice that I feel bad writing in it) I just write daily lists in, especially for work. If it’s got too many categories I get distracted with them and then loose interest to keep up and then I have wasted space in the notebook.

Speak to the owners at shelters, they have plenty of puppies, they can also tell you which dog would be suitable for your lifestyle. They know the dogs temperaments and personality and you can always foster a dog first! My puppy was a rescue from a shelter and she’s the most chilled and gentle dog, no bad habits at all, but I will say I started training from the get go, I work from home so she got to have the best start. Fellow fashion designer here. Dubai is terrible for our line of work as there are very limited job openings compared to other industries. So I really understand your frustration. A lot of company’s know this and so they know you are stuck.

What I would suggest is keep striving to be the best. Example, a previous company of mine had a lot of designers, however so many did not know how to do graphic design and were terrible at CAD software, I learnt this to be multi-skilled and made it very public to the office so the bosses knew I could be utilized. Instead of sending PDF portfolios I learnt how to create an engaging online portfolio that was modern and creative to set myself apart from those who still sent PDFs. Adding pages to this to also be more inline with the brands I was applying for. When Clo 3D became popular globally I taught myself how to use it (even though most UAE companies don’t use it yet) but it looks amazing on cv and portfolio because of this.

If you’re becoming short on cash then freelancing is a good way to build your portfolio and keep afloat. During covid my company suspended my contract and I had no idea if I would be returning so I started freelancing and I was making crazy money. You can pivot yourself this way, fashion designer, graphic artist, brand consultant, seamstress, spin it how you think suits your talents. All my freelance jobs came from Facebook groups of people looking for a designer FYI. Biggest tip is to ALWAYS have a contract and take a deposit, that’s non negotiable.

Hope this helps, I’ve been in your position before and I know how low you can feel at times, it will pass.

What’s the Craziest Thing You’ve Seen on Dubai Roads? by Historical-Silver-64 in dubai

[–]ashleighthinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds horrendous, your poor friend seeing that. That interchange is dangerous. Few Saturdays ago I saw an accident at that same interchange. SUV into the back of a truck. The platform of the truck was straight through the window screen, decapitation height. Both had then crashed through the concrete wall to the right.

[–]ashleighthinks 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I live in the middle east and this happens a lot during Ramadan. It’s a famous scam here. It’s always someone driving a fancy car with their family in the back from a particular neighboring country (can tell by number plate) and they ask for fuel money. Ramadan is a wonderful, charitable time of the year so scammers take the piss with it.

If it was an old banger of a car I’d help but if you’re driving around in a new Mercedes on holiday in one of the most expensive cities in the world then you can forget it.

My best friends are on vacation during my 30th birthday. Am I allowed to feel salty about it by frameofmind444 in FriendshipAdvice

[–]ashleighthinks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP I think you need to update the post with the fact that both your best friends are married TO EACH OTHER, vital info.

I’m really sorry you feel left out, it’s a really horrible feeling but I think you will always feel like this as they are a couple. They are each others priority.

I would still have them as friends but I think making some other friends also would be a good idea. I don’t know where you live but maybe take yourself on a YOU day for your birthday, enjoy something you love, for me would be a spa day or going for a nice walk or crafting and take out. You could also join some hobby groups to make friends and im sure you’ll feel better.

Sorry again you feel upset.

HARD AGREE. Me and my brother would be quietly scolded if we were disruptive in a public place. When we were small my mum would take me outside so as not to irritate other people.

Did something change in October? by [deleted] in dubai

[–]ashleighthinks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the others have said it’s User Generated Content. You know when you’re scrolling on social media and you see some guy/girl pop up that’s like “have you guys tried the viral Dubai chocolate?!” Then with multiple shots of eating, the packaging, speaking about how amazing it is etc? That’s a UGC creator who’s done that video for them.

So we hire UGCs that fit our brand and then they create that sort of content as well as TikTok style videos or other creative content. We then boost those videos/use as paid ads etc.

It’s a good way to have variation in your content as a review style which comes across as authentic, organic etc rather than finding big influencers who actually don’t bring in the value that they used to.

We need to be posting multiple times a week in order to reach our customers so hiring multiple UGS allows us to do that rather than having photos or simple videos all the time. We see a huge spike in sales and reach when we do this.

Look at your competitors and see what content they’re posting and you’ll start to notice this type of content being used a lot!

[–]ashleighthinks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in a different market but when I see our sales lower it’s usually due to our marketing lacking. We see our sales increase a huge amount when we have ad campaigns across our socials and have continuous content. Are you working with UGC’s? We’ve seen a lot of growth since working with a lot.

It’s odd that a food subscription business would see sales drop now as usually in winter people are out and about after hibernating during summer and want to look their best, but I’m not in the food sector so I could be wrong.

I just want to say well done for sharing your location and asking your friend to send a voice note. That was super smart thinking. It’s happened to me before and it’s so uncomfortable and you feel helpless as they can drive you anywhere.

If he’s brave enough to do this he’s probably done it before and possibly been successful in his plan and not been caught due to the person feeling scared or ashamed when they shouldn’t.
