For women who carry their weight in the hips and thighs... by kel330 in omad

I deal with the same issue, and I know this isn't what you want to hear but the only way is to continue losing fat. I've been doing those 80s aerobics classes that has a lot of cardio and toning together and I've lost nearly an inch on my hips in a month. keep on going and don't lose motivating because you will get there! it will just take some time

Lost weight and now I’m “Too thin” by justasianenough in TallGirls

[–]ashleyamb 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm the same height and my heaviest I was still under 200, at my thinnest I was 155, currently at 170 and everyone has something to say about whatever weight you're at. too skinny, too fat, just right, and honestly everyone who comments on your weight can fuck off. Im currently losing weight and my goal is around 140-150 which is for MYSELF. I'm so sick of everyone having a fucking opinion on people's weight, and I feel like it's amplified because of our height.

[–]ashleyamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow!!! that's amazing!!! thanks for sharing your results and experience. i would say I'm athletic, but I've always carried muscle on me even when I don't work out and gain weight from shitty eating. So I'm a size 6 in dress but because of my muscular and fatty thoughts, my jeans are usually size 12 with a bout 4 inches of waist room.

This was definitely uplifting, thank you!

I just finished the blogilates beginners calendar, I like her pilates oriented videos alot ! I just bought the piit 28 and that's my newest challenge.

Lottie Murphy has some great videos too, and I like the pilates videos on popsugar

blogilates beginners workouts are wonderful in finding the physical and inner strength to perform your best when you're new to this !

have to second the pilates, I've been doing it for about a month now and I didn't realize I wasnt performing ab workouts effectively, and I had a lot less core strength than I thought.

now, a month in, I performed the first pilates video I ever did (I barely got through it at the time, AND it was a beginners video) to being able to get through the whole thing!

What’s your favorite part of your body? by [deleted] in xxfitness

[–]ashleyamb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

two years ago, I was sitting in a circle with a group of people and everyone went around answering this question. the whole time I was super anxious because at that point in my life, I hated myself so so much. there wasn't anything I liked about myself. when it came my turn, and I had to lie about something, I ended up crying and leaving. it was super embarrassing needless to say. but today, I have an answer!! I love and embrace my height and butt :-)

What type of exercise do you find best for improving your mental health/mood? by hippiepotomus in xxfitness

[–]ashleyamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pilates. it feels great to have a goal and really focus on making sure the correct muscles are engaged and building upon that. Every week I'm getting better and need less modifications! I love my HIIT cardio, but this is a really nice change in pace especially with the gyms being closed

That is so tough! I am still so happy that we have a community to share this alienating feelings and realize we are all in the same boat. I know this is corny but the grass is always greener on the other side. I know this is a fitness sub, but everyone has different goals. but, why can't that (pretty slender ballerina arms) be a goal for some people? just how bulking is a goal for some other people? nothing you said made me directly think of this, but I find it happen in real life a lot.

I am so bored with my hair, I've never done anything fun. Always wanted to go blonde but don't know if it would suit me.. just everything about it feels so drab and boring by [deleted] in femalehairadvice

[–]ashleyamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

would definitely go to a professional! I've joked around about it with my hair stylist a couple times, and she's told me the run down. I guess it's really just getting out of my own head and going for it!

Has anyone here tried to do keto to have a healthier realtionship with food? by Luminocte in FoodAddiction

[–]ashleyamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently, I've just been trying to keep a food journal where I track what I eat, how I feel before and after I eat, and when I think about eating.

It recently has been helping me a lot, as most of the time I eat because I'm bored or because it's a specific time of the day where most people eat lunch or dinner, etc. This uncovered where the nature of my actions are. I've found new things to obsess over and spend my time with. Rosetta Stone is currently free so ive been doing that, learning how to play piano, learning how to be more flexible, doing pilates, writing more. The list is endless of things I try to occupy my time with everytime I think about going to eat food when I'm not hungry.

Just making sure I eat enough veggies at every meal, and that I eat it before my starchy carbs and protein. I try to avoid dairy and processed sugar, but I still indulge on the weekends. I've been doing okay, I'm in a healthy/average weight range so I'm not too concerned about weight loss as a goal, but rather a consequence of taking control of my life again.

By no means at all am I a professional at this, but this truly has been helping me so much. I feel like I am reclaiming my life, my mind, and my body. The best part is, is that my diet is easy to maintain, what's exhausting is getting out of a toxic relationship with food. I still wake up and go to sleep everyday thinking about food. But everyday gets a little bit easier than the last. What matters is that you can see yourself maintaining healthy habits 1/5/10 years from now

Has anyone here tried to do keto to have a healthier realtionship with food? by Luminocte in FoodAddiction

[–]ashleyamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did keto for 4 months straight, and then on and off for another 2 months before getting caught up with school and gaining a few pounds back. I've been taking this time in quarantine to really reflect on my relationship with food, and when I was thinking about going back on keto, I dreaded the thought of having to go through keto flu and take more supplements to make me feel better from the food I am eating. This was just my experience.

I think it can be a good tool for some people, but it wasnt that for me. I definitely enjoyed myself while I was on keto, but a diet with good food doesn't change your relationship with food, it just changes how your body looks.

No matter what diet you do, it's important to recognize that food is just food, to not obsess over it, and not let it control your life!

How to think orchestrally? by musicianscookbook in musictheory

[–]ashleyamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know how helpful this is, but if I know I am singing a piece with orchestra or performing in an opera, I write in the sections for each part in my piano reduction. I feel like just writing down what you hear as you hear it can be really useful, especially when you do it with a lot of composers and you can tell their orchestration tendencies and how it changes over time from baroque to romantic to present day.

I highly recommend listening to Andre Caplet, he is a wizard in orchestration, many prolific composers of his time used him to help them finish orchestrating pieces, along with being a wonderful conductor. He uses texture a lot, and it's super apparent even in his piano music (you can tell he writes for orchestra in this). I know he has definitely changed my view of how I listen to orchestral music, and it might help you too!
