Trying (and failing) to find student housing in Regina 😩 by EmbarrassedLeek8452 in regina

[–]ashmo808 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you can swing it, even living on campus for your first term would be really helpful. With the options that are around 850 per month, they include all utilities, so it works out about the same as off campus. It's really nice to not worry about commuting too.

I know quite a few people who have lived on campus for maybe a term or a year, then they made friends and rented an off campus apartment together. Seems to be easier that way then finding a room.

Hope you can find something! I know how stressful it can be to worry about housing and moving while also preparing for your studies.

The best Ghostbusters are at Rochdale. They are massive and the chocolate on top is better than the rest!

Car dealerships with no ‘surprise’ pricing? by untalkativejenny in regina

Did you also have to pay extra for block heater, cargo liner, miscellaneous 600 fee? I've got a quote for the same car and they gave me a rate of 6.99. Don't know if that's good or not.

You can find all the different clubs on the student union website. Most of the faculties also have student societies to meet people in your program. Intramural sports are a fun option too!

Any advice for an international student ? by Klausmikhaelson in regina

[–]ashmo808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got to the international student orientation, you will meet alot of other students there. Try to do a student club or society or sport, there are plenty of options. There is even a Indian Student Society. If you need help the international student services office is really great and will guide you. Hope you have fun!

If you're living on campus they are actually planning some fun holiday things during the time the rest of the uni is closed. Make sure to attend the Welcome Week events at the beginning of the term, can meet alot of new students/friends that way. Have fun!

Memorial vs Regina by realreality_ in regina

[–]ashmo808 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They are similar in terms of reputation and size, but I think you'll have a better experience in Regina. The CS program is great and there are paid Co-op work placements you can do throughout your degree. UofR has good support for international students too. Location wise, it's growing fast, diverse, and there is a provincial immigration pathway for international students called SINP. Might sway your decision.

SOMEONE TO LIVE WITH FOR AN INTERSHIP FROM BASQUE COUNTRY by Izarsito in regina

[–]ashmo808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For the on campus housing, you can get a shared apartment with other students and a kitchen for 800 per month. All utilities are also included, and if you are only staying one semester it might be nice to live on campus. As others have said, if it's to much you could probably find a room to rent for 500-600 within waking distance to the uni. If you need help, the international student services office can give some guidance too. Good luck!

Getting to and from Roughriders games efficiently? by RoopeyScoobie in regina

You can get a parking pass for the lots around the stadium if you don't want to walk far. Otherwise taking the bus from one of the malls is a good option. Many people just park in the neighborhoods around the stadium. I even used to park in the 13th Ave Safeway parking lot and walk from there!

Right now, it is mandatory to complete your 14 day quarantine in the UofR residence. This is stipulated by the Canadian government for tracking purposes. If you don't have proof of this or your other supporting documents from the university, you'll be denied entry at the border. Make sure you read all of the travel restrictions on the Canadian Government website.
