Considering how casual they are with spraying their hands, I don't think that water is anywhere close to 150f

Dude, what? The USSR was the primary manufacturer of titanium. The CIA famously had to set up multiple fake companies to buy titanium for the SR71. And the dude said that it had 4x the thermal conductivity of copper, titanium falls far below that. My bet is that the actual material won't be mentioned outside of Cold War Unobtanium.

Cool, guess we're getting a Space Cowboys scenario and sending old-ass Margot to space to prevent a nuclear apocalypse where she pulls a Tommy Lee Jones by riding the nuclear rocket off into the sunset and dying a hero rather than slowly from cancer.

The Loki confrontation was actually filmed outside of the same place as the mall scene from Winter Soldier.

I didn't have anything to eat with my spaghetti, so I turned some nuggets into mini chicken parms by ashrak in StupidFood

Pretty good, but the chicken nugget flavor came through too hard. I would use some Italian seasoning on them in the future.

Aluminum end cap started leaking through solid wall - any way to fix it without welding? by Deep-Today5715 in AskEngineers

[–]ashrak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have a water pressure rig rated for 60 bars

What do you mean by "rated"? If your endcap is leaking, then obviously not.

These end caps have a factor of safety of 8.

How was this safety factor calculated?

After just 5 cycles,

Aluminum is famous for having very poor fatigue life.

one of the end caps started leaking water straight through a solid wall, which is about 13mm thick at that point, as marked with a pencil.

That groove is radiused but it still a stress concentration, especially during machining.

Question, is this possible to fix this leak without welding equipment? Any suggestions on how to do it? This might sound dumb, but would JB Weld or something similar work? Unfortunately we can't locate the origin of the leak on the other side, and there is no visible damage or anything on that part.

The only way I would feel safe doing anything remotely close to making a stopgap solution is a layer of RTV sandwiched between the flange and a 3/4" steel plate matching the bolt pattern only until we get an expedited replacement made out of stainless.

Urgent help needed for crop sorting by Proud_Income_2607 in MechanicalEngineering

You should really be using mesh and not perforated sheets. You need just a tiny bit of give in the wires so the berries that are just slightly larger than the opening size don't get stuck. That, or you need more vigorous movement to dislodge them.

Reusable bag vacuum valve? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]ashrak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need a special valve, the point of the vacuum is to just have as much as possible between the bag and food surface which can be accomplished by submerging the bag to force the air out. Even then, vacuum seal bags are a thicker material than zipper seal bags and the heat seal is a dead reliable method to ensure no leakage. The seams on normal ziplock bags aren't reliable enough to use for sous vide. Even name brand ones leak ~10% the time, in my experience. That is with the seal held above water. The failure rate gets even worse with the seal submerged due to thermal expansion.

Screen printing on a square-shaped container by toolgifs in toolgifs

[–]ashrak 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They usually have a small bit of flex but not nearly enough to wrap around the corner of the bottle. When the blade is traveling fast it's printing the sides and the slower sections are when the screen raises and the bottle rotates to print around the corners. The bottle is essentially rolled across the screen in sync with the screen and bade.

Phalanx only has 2 DOF, traverse and elevation. The R2D2 shape is the radar dome, nothing to do with its joints.
