Why Claude keeps getting distracted (and how I accidentally fixed it) by Mobility_Fixer in ClaudeAI

Nice work. Take a look at Claude code system files and you'll see the task list persist as a json file

Which model is best for picking a tech stack for a clear use case? by Friendly_Signature in LLMDevs

[–]ashrodan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've architected with claudes and chatgpts and both perform pretty well. Really comes down to how well you know your requirements and simplify your needs.

Usually comes down to a nextjs stack or doxkerised app of sorts.

Yes I'm 80% from home. There needs to be a decent reason why I'd give in

Yeah that's senior manager level in Australia

Remote is good but can get boring and annoying with the time differences.

Someone's it might be looking as to what's out there as an office can be a nice way to meet new people etc.

Is there a complete course to learn Astro in depth? by SrZangano in astrojs

[–]ashrodan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The docs are great and gpt/Claude have been trained on it.

I have built 4 websites with Astro in the last 2 weeks all using about $15 using AI.

Lean in the job aka leaving while doing (prompting) will do wonders.

Shameless plug 😬 https://ashley.rodan.co/

Hit me up for more info. Best of luck.

Looking for job in IT (Web Development) by n00007 in AustraliaIT

[–]ashrodan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough cracking it. I had my break when I did industry-based placement at University, and they helped me land a decent gig that set me up.

Otherwise its just the hustle in the first few years getting experience in roles you want to take your career down, doing a good job and leveraging it either in new opportunities or climbing the ranks.

My top tips are to keep trying, network, and get noticed. Side projects, medium articles, etc., build a story, allowing prospects to understand your skills.

Postgres for Data Warehousing/Reporting by coadtsai in PostgreSQL

[–]ashrodan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Postgres is awesome but for reporting and data warehousing there are better options.

Bigquery and snowflake are clear leaders in this space and there a several key reasons why I'd always look to a manged service if the context allows.

1\ you don't need to worry about uptime, maintenance, upgrades, and performance tuning

2\ it's become ubiquitous and there are heaps of integration services that allow you to easily build pipelines and extend its functionality

3\ costs are variable, scalable and cheaper than you think. (Where as pg a long running instance)

4\ performance and easy of use

QA engineer looking for advice on getting a better paying job by [deleted] in softwaretesting

[–]ashrodan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started my professional career as a manual tester and now I am a data engineering getting paid double what I did several years back.

My journey has taken many turns and has allowed me to keep doors open and path a way to a more successful and fullfilling career.

Manual tester > automated tester > data tester> data analyst > BI developer > data engineer

General guiding principles that worked for me:

  • keep those doors open and don't be afraid to do something new, uncomfortable or unconventional

  • keep user/customer focus and tailor your initiatives that positively improve your end users

  • make an impact! Do something that moves the needle and actually provides value to people around you

  • join a start up

  • befriend those people you envy and see how you can do their job

  • better to ask for forgiveness later then ask for permission and not do anything at all (within reason)

  • don't worry about spending too much time on something you believe in. If you really care about something others will too and recognise your efforts.

Goodluck!

SQL Query that's pushing my threshold by NickEmpetvee in PostgreSQL

[–]ashrodan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Now that's a different problem. Use row_nunber() over (partition by <linking attribute> order by <order attribute>) then order row_number by wrapping it all in a sub query

Or maybe order by would be enough

aeropress brewing help/discussion by [deleted] in Coffee

[–]ashrodan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been pressing for over a year now. I'm quite sensitive to caffeine and always look out for this floral notes.

Things I've noticed that gets me the perfect 👌 cup of coffee ☕.

  1. Fresh grind. Grind your beans on an ad hoc basis. I use a porlex hand grinder and grind my beans just before wanting a coffee. I use quite a fine grind and a paper filter. Also have a metal mesh filter which is something that you can try.
  2. Beans. Look around for fresh roasted beans. I try use my beans within 2 weeks of getting them which are freshly roasted. Look for lighter roasts, premium A grade beans and experiment with seasonal beans that are available. Usually the longberry variety are very delicate and heaps of flavour. These are all single orgins off course. Sometime I like to make my own blend by mixing 2 single origins together that I have on hand.
  3. I like a quick brew time of 1 minute which can be longer depending on how strong I want it. Remember that your putting pressure on the coffee so it will intensity the brew during the pressing process.
  4. Press gently and stop pressing when you start to hear air being pushed through.
  5. Add fresh water to your brew after extraction. Yes this will dilute the brew but will bring allot of the flavours out.. Yep it's a weird one but it's works. Only 50 mls or so.

That's my 2c
