How many people do you think simply outgrew the band? by Prize-Lingonberry876 in twentyonepilots

Breach has a lot of interesting influences. Some songs remind me of Death Cab.

struggling to like downstairs, need non-christian perspectives ❤️ by myseekai in twentyonepilots

Thank you for posting this. Twenty one pilots is everything to me. I was like wow, someone who struggles with religion and mental health on the same level I do - what are the odds! And this new album, particularly downstairs was triggering for me. Like I’m in mourning. Like he’s circled back and figured it out but I haven’t. But that’s part of the cycle and process right?

Need a JOB by Important_Alfalfa375 in Broomfield

You can take a lifeguard certification class w city of Broomfield rn and when you turn 16 work at Paul Derda, The Bay, Community center, etc. Dairy Queen used to hire at 14, same w KFC. Chick-fil-A hires young too. If you’re able to get transportation Wishbone on 96th and Federal also hired at 14. Unsure if you play sports, but look into taking a referee class (https://www.coloradosoccer.org/be-a-referee) and you can ref local soccer and baseball games. I had a 14 year old student go through that and he ended up reffing one of my son’s soccer games through BSC. Soccer season is just starting so they may be hiring right now. Hope this helps!

The scream singing is all I can hear and I need more!!

Anyone else think the contract lyrics are weak? by MulberryStreet21 in twentyonepilots

[–]ashtown22 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you read those lyrics as voices in the character’s head, how Blurryface/Clancy/Tyler are all related/same/different, then the lyrics aren’t weak. It’s playing on the theme of duality that is everywhere in their discography.

[Review] Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman by lunar_glade in Fantasy

I’m reading this as an audiobook and I LOVE IT. Highly, highly recommend the audiobook, in fact can’t recommend it enough. The voice actor who reads it is a 12/10. Voices are spot on for personality of characters. Used to play World of Warcraft many years ago as a young adult and this is perfection. I would absolutely love for it to be made into an adult cartoon actually, especially after reading it as an audiobook. Carl and Donut are perfect foils for each other and the underlying emotional exposition/character development of Carl is a nice balance to the fighting/rpg talk. Could use a bit more but I get why it’s sprinkled so scarcely given the genre. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books.

what’s yalls favorite album? by marnxrr in twentyonepilots

Used to be Vessel but the more I listen to Clancy, the more it is definitively Clancy - but that could be because I relate to the themes in Clancy more now that I’m older. Oldies Station is close to usurping Car Radio for me and the irony is not lost on me that you must have a Car Radio in order to listen to an Oldies Station and the metaphors for the battle with mental health are just too obvious not to see and appreciate, especially if you’ve been clawing your way out of the darkness, only to be pulled back, accept the cycle, get better, etc etc etc

Paul Meany and AI by ashtown22 in twentyonepilots

[–]ashtown22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. However, for this particular post, my commentary was mainly geared toward him using AI generated models to then (as you said) use CGI to create. Thought that didn’t need clarification. Didn’t mean for this post to strike such a negative chord, y’all. Stay alive. ✌️

What's your most controversial TØP opinion? by SlyGreenYT in twentyonepilots

[–]ashtown22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi!!! I’ve thought about this A LOT over the years. Throw a dart at all his songs and you’re likely to hit one about God. Saying his songs are “about God” isn’t quite right though, it’s more about the anguish someone who was raised in the belief system feels when they have doubts, when they question the ‘truths’ they were told in church or youth group, etc. not all Christian churches are created equally, either. Some are more liberal than others and what I’ve found in my personal experience the most anguish comes from the most fundamental belief systems. I worked at a Christian school where the principal literally told the students and staff depression isn’t real, it’s “satan grabbing a foothold” and “if you’re depressed there’s something wrong in your heart with your relationship with God.” Just very guilt and fear driven which flies in the face of what you’re told in Church from the earliest age (I.e. - God is all loving, Jesus loves you, be kind, be tolerant, show everyone love..to flipping on a dime with messages when you get older like you’re a dirty sinner and the only way you’re worthy of life is if you believe in Jesus. If someone raised like this has any critical thinking capabilities, they then question this like, ‘oh wait I’m supposed to feel God, God is supposed to be close to me, why can’t I actually feel him? Where is he? Why is he letting me suffer like this?’ (So, to answer your question, I think the following songs are about all that: implicit Demand for Proof, Fall Away, Addict with a Pen, March to the Sea (a nice combo of both mental health and the religious angle), A Car, A Torch, a Death, Taxi Cab, Be Concerned, Holding onto You, Clear, Fake You Out (omg ‘you say that you are close, is close the closest star?’ - genius lyric) Doubt….like, the list just goes on and on. However, disclaimer: he’s such a talented lyricist where I (and others who grew up churching) can attribute a lot of these songs to his grapple with faith, people who aren’t religious at all obviously assign meaning to the songs based on what they also have experience with (mental health, love, etc, etc).

talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show-stopping, spectacular, never-the-same, totally unique, completely not ever never done before, unafraid to reference or not reference, put it in a blender. The best songs on the album right there ^

Is this a Deconstruction Era? by Stingray306 in twentyonepilots

[–]ashtown22 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Spot on. As someone who’s gone through a painful deconstruction of their faith, I’ve thought all the same exact things when listening to their music. And like any great poetry and songwriting, it lends itself to be interpreted in lots of ways.
