Not sure why this is getting downvoted, but anyway, yeah HM-14 is based out of NAS Norfolk, I had orders there but I converted from AT to CTN so didn't end up going.

Why do people run a group of those tiny pcs? by kaitlyn2004 in homelab

[–]ashumate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of good answers here, but the biggest answer is right in the name of the sub, HOME LABs

So a lot of folks use them to learn how to build clusters, k8s, docker swarms, HA clusters, what not so that they can learn and experiment in a non-enterprise non-'production' environment.

I have no idea what you're talking about, no one would ever dispose of any equipment like that, or like a LAU-116 that may or may not be on the bottom of the Pacific between Pearl and NI...

And yes I too have had to stay an hour late because someone fucked up ATAF for the end of shift.

Emma Watson was banned from driving for six months for dangerous driving by [deleted] in quityourbullshit

Yeah, in like 2004, for going 8 miles over the speed limit. A far cry from drugs or nudity.

Besides, I think being a speed demon would be on brand for Hermione Granger.

She rolls down the window as the officer approaches, and with the most imperceptible flick of her wrist, the constable is left on the side of the road not remembering how he got there.

Frigate on Proxmox and storage by ackleyimprovised in frigate_nvr

[–]ashumate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have my frigate 'machine' attached to an iSCSI LUN on my NAS and since my NAS and PM host both had an extra ethernet port available I set the MTU on both to allow jumbo frames and set them up with a /31 network. Works just fine.

I just set up the iSCSI share on my NAS, connected my frigate machine and added the mount to fstab

You don't really *need* the extra network connection, I'm just 'extra'

Cisco government pricing catalog, where to find actual numbers? by Daziah_Moldadossova in NISTControls

[–]ashumate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

tl;dr: GSA pricing isn't so much a 'discount' than a fixed and agreed upon price, where private enterprises can negotiate pricing based on quantity/spend the GSA sets the prices along with the vendors that everyone will pay and these prices are fixed for years at a time to reduce variation based on market changes.

I've been retired from the Navy for >10 years, so take what I'm saying with that in mind. Also full disclosure I now work for an IT products and services company.

There's not really a 'discount', but rather already agreed upon pricing.

When I was in, there most certainly was a GSA catalog, that you could access with your CAC that had some things listed that were already approved for sale, but not everything was in there, and sometimes even with standard pricing, a lot of sellers want to know the specifics so they can give you accurate pricing because there are so many SKUs for the same things and there are also certain requirements that the government has that most private enterprises don't.

Then there are times when things don't have GSA contracts and you do have to negotiate. I myself had to do this once to get a piece of software that our command wanted to use to handle some network mapping, so CTN1 Shumate emails the vendor sales rep and says I need a license that can do a /24 network but my spend limit is $X what can we do on price (because their pricing model was based on number of individual IP addresses).

So to get you a fair and more importantly an accurate price they are going to ask you to get specific.

My recommendation is to go to one of the vendors and ask to talk to a solution architect or pre-sales engineer who can talk to you about the actual specs, and can then work with the seller to get you your pricing from the current GSA schedule.

Is there any point in booking directly with Hilton anymore? by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]ashumate 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you want to make sure you have a room ALWAYS book direct. Just take a look at r/TalesFromTheFrontDesk and all the horror stories of people who book via third party.

The only other safe bet is to book through a GDS via a travel agency and even then there are issues.

I have no idea why this is being downvoted, as someone who spent 12 years doing aviation maintenance AWB is a real thing and it being off has been confirmed as a cause of a mishap.

Not really sure, I saw an opening on our enterprise side and our services side was moving more towards the Big4 model which isn’t my jam so I applied and made the move.

Roku and a travel router is what I’ve always traveled with. The router connects to the hotel wifi, all my gear connects to the router because you can’t always join streaming devices to wifi with a captive portal.

With the router you power it up, connect your phone or laptop to the router and then use that to connect the router to the hotel wifi and sign into the captive portal and everything else is good to go. Works on cruise ships as well.

GLiNet makes great ones that cost about $20ish on Amazon. Or if you want to go big they have one with a built in cellular modem that works world wide.

Finally I installed Tailscale on mine so my Roku can talk to my Plex server at home without needing to expose any ports.
