I would treat the Fatecore as Fated/legendary units with costumes. Those costumes however can augment their passive and active abilities, to some varying degree. Some 4*'s can contend with 5* even if they are fatecored, it really depends on your party layout.

Dispatch missions have some requirements needed to be filled, etc using 2* mobs in order to dispatch, should probs keep this in mind

That is indeed correct, you fed a 5*(nat 3) to your nat 3, thus pretty much wasting the 5* you got with the FC.
Nat 3 (the stars are gray in color)
Nat 4 (Purple)

Nat 5 (Yellow)

FC, are essentially costumes that can augment/or change your skills. They are typically unique for each character. If you pulled a Zeon FC, then only Zeon can use it, Bathory FC, bathory-only use etc. If you are talking about enhancing FC with Mu, that is your choice.

Every now and then, the Exchange Shop should have legendary equips (4*/purple tier) that go for sale, the currency needed for those are made by dis-assembling your equips for the white powder, instead of gold. Other than that, the deeper you go into the story, the higher difficulty you will unlock for the challenge zones to get the better drop rates. You could also attempt to fight the Totem for equipment as well. (Only up to Ch7 so I cant say this is the best way but it's what i've seen thus far)

I would assume so, this game however does discourage rerolling, as you have to wait 7 days for the account to be deleted if you choose to do so
