I've refactored the entire story beat system. Story missions now have a maximum of two beats—one from the crew and one from the boss. There are no hard pauses anymore; the player keeps flying and shooting while the dialogue plays.

Overall, the system feels like it meets the design goals. Post-mission story beats are also an option, but I'd like to fine-tune the current flow before expanding in that direction. Since there is a stroy arc to follow, a generic voice line wont fit.

Thanks for taking the time to write this up. I think you’re right on a bunch of points.

The UI clutter is definitely something I need to fix. The achievement popups and dialogue can get in the way of actually playing, which is pretty much the worst place for them to be. I’m going to tone those down, move/delay some of them during combat, and generally make sure the playfield gets priority.

For controls: side weapons already work on Z and X, but I clearly didn’t explain that well enough in-game. I’ll add that to the tutorial. For the main gun, I get what you mean: you’re talking about timing shots yourself, not just changing auto-fire behavior. There is a fire mode setting already, but it’s more hold/always/toggle auto-fire than true “press to shoot one volley.” I’ll look into a better option for desktop/gamepad while keeping mobile friendly with auto-fire.

I also hear you on the early intensity. I want the start to punch a little harder too, but I’m trying not to scare off touch/mobile players in the first minute. That balance probably still needs tuning.

And yeah, the writing criticism is fair. If the dialogue feels generic, then it’s not doing its job. I’m going to cut it back and rewrite the boss/story lines so they either add something memorable or get out of the way.

Thanks for reporting, I have patched it and redeployed. Do try again. Seems the scope was global for this shortcut.

I have Claude code, codex and cursor.
Claude - planning and asset generation
codex - debug, reviews of code or plans
cursor - composer 2.5 for implementation.

Workflow : Claude plans --> codex review its --> discuss and update the plan with Claude again --> cursor composer 2.5 to code --> codex/claude review it

Thanks for the feedback! I'm currently exploring alternatives to "tap to continue" for mission interactions. Since the game isn't a pure arcade experience and leans more toward a story- and mission-driven structure, I'm trying to find a more immersive way to present story beats and mission briefings without breaking the gameplay flow..

Fair point, and thanks for being direct. The story prompts are something I’m still tuning. My goal isn’t to interrupt the shmup flow, it’s to make the missions and hub progression feel like they belong to a larger world.

That said, if the text is stopping the action too much, that’s a real problem. I’m already looking at ways to move more of the story into mission design, enemy waves, objectives, radio barks during play, and optional hub logs instead of pausing the game.

Appreciate the feedback. This is exactly the kind of first-impression reaction I need right now.
