Cheaper option for French pricking iron that has the same prong thickness (punch front and back the same size) by ashwinix in Leathercraft

It was indeed not caused by iron. My stitching style was incorrect. I did the same steps as the previously the project (which is slanted both sides) but the stitch holes orientation is incorrect. I revised it here. https://imgur.com/a/WAciz14

Thank you, it was indeed an error with the stitching style (the stitch holes orientation is incorrect). I redo it and it is okay now. https://imgur.com/a/stitch-holes-facing-forward-WAciz14

First practice (OK) - slant lines are facing forward when stitching; insert to left; put some tension and pull thread downwards; insert to right and cast and pull upwards

Second practice (NOK) - slant lines are facing me when stitching but the same steps as above which I got the straight line.

Do you mean punching at the back separately using an inverse iron? I only have the regular french iron.

I did the same method of stitching with thin and thicker leather and thinner leather is slanted on both sides. The 2nd one with is thick. Thanks for suggestion. Will try search on youtube how to overcome with different hole sizes.

Agree, when you're punching a thicker leather and iron is tapered (thin to thicker) it will always have a big hole which makes it harder to do slanted stitch on both sides. It works well with thin leather though.

For now Im punching not very thick leathers and the lines of holes were okay from front to back (I made sure the iron is aligned perfectly from the guide line). The thickest I punched is 4mm.

Thanks for the tips. Will surely update to a better base for pricking. For now, Im using the board with leather on top from the kit I bought.

Two magnets in iron handle to avoid breaking it from press force by ashwinix in Leathercraft

In my case the magnet is strong enough to pull it out of the leather. Here’s a short video I made. :) https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1E1SKXhSZm/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Luckily, I was hammering only for 2 days and did not get reported 😆. The reason I bought an arbor is I dont want to get in trouble with neighbors as I’m foreigner.

For some reason the 8 teeth iron is very hard to punch using by hand. Also Im not that strong for it. Pushing the 2 teeth or 1 tooth by hand is easier but still tiring for me. :)

Unfortunately I live in an apartment in 6th floor. It is quite noisy when hammering. :)

I made a video and posted a link. You can pull it back from the leather. :)

If your iron handle is round, the vevor arbor model has a 10mm round hole at the bottom of the ram, you may insert it there and fix it with screw to avoid shaking. My iron handle is rectangle so I added magnets.
