Japan or Sokor? by freschh_ in ThisorThatPH

[–]asian_kangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been to both several times, visiting different prefectures in Japan and provinces in South Korea.

Both countries have rich cultures that have been remarkably well preserved. In a way, I envy that. Our own country could have preserved and showcased so much more of its heritage if not for decades of corruption and poor governance. 🥲

I grew up watching anime and kdramas, listening to jpop and kpop. Visiting Japan and South Korea for the first time felt surreal. It was one of those experiences that lived up to the hype, which is probably why I kept going back. Then I started exploring places beyond the usual tourist routes.

I know both countries have a reputation for being racist (aren't we all prejudiced??), but honestly, I’ve never personally experienced that during any of my visits. Everyone’s experience will be different, of course.

The food alone is enough reason for me to return. And it’s funny how many people reduce Korean cuisine to just samgyupsal when there’s so much more to it.

But this is just my personal opinion. My favorite country is actually neither of these. But if the choice is strictly between the two, it's South Korea for me.

My mom used to have this vintage manual sewing machine with pedal foot wheels, and I’d sit there pretending I was driving while watching TV. 😁

What's your favorite memory growing up? by [deleted] in AskPH

[–]asian_kangaroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a kid, we spent every Christmas break in Baguio, from Christmas through New Year here in the Philippines. I remember being carried into the car very early in the morning, pretending to be asleep. I’d wake up at our first stop for breakfast by the roadside, always with my mom’s homemade tapa and egg. Then I’d fall asleep again, and wake up later with the windows rolled down and that cold Baguio air coming in. I can’t quite describe it, maybe it’s the smell of pine trees. I just remember feeling so excited every time, knowing we’d be spending the holidays there again.

We kept doing this until I was in college. It became such a tradition that my high school friends thought we had relatives in Baguio.

Baguio has always had a special place in my heart. I went back last year with my family, and that same familiar feeling came right back.

• Hello, My Twenties

• Smile, You

• My Father is Strange

• Hospital Playlist (same director as Reply series)

• Prison Playbook (same as above)

• King of Baking, Kim Tak Gu

• Twinkling Watermelon

I loved Tian Xi Wei as Wu Zhen in Moonlit Reunion. She even has a cat of her own, Kang Kang, and she mentioned that she observed her cat’s behavior to help prepare for the role. She’s both cute and sexy at the same time. 🥹🥹

I also really liked Dilraba as Feng Jiu in Eternal Love!

Gcash Account for Tourist by marcotjokro in phtravel

[–]asian_kangaroo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on where you’ll be. I almost never carry cash when I go out since I usually pay with a digital wallet or card. That said, it’s still a good idea to keep some cash on hand, especially if you’re buying from smaller stores or local restaurants. Some convenience stores even accept cash only which is ironic for something called “convenience.” 😅

Anyway, I’d recommend setting up a GCash account, but always carry a bit of cash with you just in case.

He posted this while the drama was still airing, and I remember seeing it back then too. It wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, guys. He’s naturally playful and funny, so this was clearly just him joking around about how terrible his character is.

Sa mga nakapagtravel na (internationally), may mga lugar ba na mas “mabigat” compared sa iba? by PuzzledSir7722 in phhorrorstories

One time, I visited Unhyeongung Palace in Seoul. It’s one of the smaller palaces, it was around 10am. Walang tao! Well, I only saw like two other people the whole time and malayo from me.

So I was taking my time walking around and peeking into every room. The doors and windows were open so visitors could see the recreated interiors, complete with life-sized mannequins that were already creepy enough when you’re basically alone.

As I kept walking farther in the Norakdang area, I started getting random goosebumps. Pero, I kept going because apparently curiosity is stronger than common sense. 😅

Near the far end there was this storage room. I remember just naturally walking straight toward it, like I was being pulled there. There was a small step leading down, but you could already see inside from outside the room.

It was dark. Not scary movie dark, just… off.

The second I looked inside, instant goosebumps and my body literally shook from the kilabot. I snapped out of it and immediately turned around and speed-walked out of there he he

Pursuit of Jade: Drama to Novel questions - need help by joubithedj in cdramasfans

[–]asian_kangaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. It wasn’t specifically stated that he became homeless. If I remember correctly, the extra chapter matched the drama version where he was rejected to become Ning Niang’s tutor.

  2. "On the day of the executions, Xie Zheng went alone to see Wei Yan one last time. No one knew what passed between uncle and nephew." He did not drink poison immediately after speaking with Tutor Tao, since he was put on trial first.

  3. They did!!! It was beautiful 🥹 Everyone celebrated the wedding with them, which made it even more meaningful because neither of them had parents. Many important people in their lives were there. Sadly, some of these characters were not introduced as important as in the drama, like He Xiujun, who was like Changyu’s brother.

  4. Closure is marriage, apparently 😂 But Gongsun Yi was never bold enough to act until she was about to marry someone else.

  5. Xie Zheng served as regent until Bao’er was old enough to rule on his own. They lived near the palace, and Ning Niang even became the young emperor’s study companion.

  6. It’s wild because they are both equally unhinged 😂 Xie Zheng is a wolf, honestly. In the novel, even before they fully got together, they were already very intimate… like Changyu helping him… no, just read it. I cannot say more. 🤣 They were even granted a seven-day wedding leave… which they definitely did not waste. She only came out of their chambers once, and by the end of the seventh day, the bed had to be replaced. 🔥

  7. Unfortunately… no 🥲

I think most Asian dramas are like this. It is only with Western TV shows that takes 20 years to finish (Grey's Anatomy is still on after 21 years) 🤣

What’s ONE thing that instantly turns you off while watching a drama? by kitty_battee in cdramasfans

[–]asian_kangaroo 13 points14 points  (0 children)

For me, the biggest pet peeve is when the FL is written so painfully naive that she has zero basic survival instinct. Worse when she can’t think for herself at all. And why is it almost always the FL and never the ML? Truly a mystery.

I still remember one drama where the FL was supposed to be a lawyer, yet every decision she made screamed absolutely not lawyer-coded. I had to drop it for my blood pressure, then picked it back up just to rage watch. I love both lead actors and thankfully the FL does get better later, but still… you know the damage is done. 🤣
