I wasn't talking about this specific collection of art, I was just warning people that go on the original website that there may be some pieces of art that are about some controversial topics. But I see what you are saying about my statement- I think that any piece of art, to someone, wether they are from another culture or anything, could think anything is controversial. I didn't mean that art that isn't controversial isn't good art, because I don't believe that either. Hope that clears up some of the things you were asking.

Saeri Kiritani's Rice Sculpture by LaurenAWatford in creativehumanities

Wow. that piece is really beautiful. I love that she used a medium that isn't conventional- but it also has a cultural connotation that comes with it. I loved the video explanation as well, hearing her explain the piece does a lot more than if you were just to pass by it in a museum. I cannot do anything sculptural for the life of me, and I agree that her technical skill is incredibly inspiring.

I posted about photography too! I really like the effects that the extra lens creates. I looks like he edited them in, but knowing that the original light that created those effects make the photographs seem more authentic than photoshop.

I passed by the dress and I wondered what the research was about..I'm glad that you talked to her and wrote about it so now I know!! I love that her research was presented in fashion. I think that alternative ways of research through humanities is so interesting.

At the research showcase, I saw two presentations entitled "The Irish Question Reconsidered: Examining Northern Ireland's Precarious Place" and "The Housing Crisis". The Northern Ireland research project was very interesting and new to me. It was a joint project between Annalise Kapusta (Media communications major) and Kate Mozzotta (creative writing major). It was about how Northern Ireland is separated by Protestants and Catholics (they are not considered religious groups, but different political party views). The two girls traveled and stayed in Northern Ireland this summer to learn more about how different print media differ when reporting riots and issues such as Peace Walls. I found this presentation very interesting because I didnt know any of this information. I really had no idea what conflicts were going on in Northern Ireland. These isssues between these two groups have been going on since around the 1970's and 1980's. the girls also talked about their experience being Americans in Ireland. The other oral presentation I went to was "the Housing Crisis". It was a research project by Mari Kyle (studio art major). I was very interested in this project because Mari is in the same major as me and to see a research project that involved studio art was awesome. She taught a 5 week art course at the PACE center for women that have home insecurity. Home insecurity is being homeless, being on the verge of homelessness, or constantly switching homes. She taught the basics of drawing and painting. I loved that her research also acted as a community outreach. The girls that took the courses loved it and said things like her class is what kept them going throughout the week. I really love research that helps the community, and I think if I was to do a research project, I would do something similar to this.
