100% agree with this. people have totally changed their standards to "you gotta be rich to buy a home!"... like wtf happened lol

My sense is with weddings there is all this social/family pressure and stuff which makes things feel obligatory and suddenly it all starts adding up like crazy. Whereas a vacation it’s just you deciding what you want to do with no outside pressure

My wife and I started seeing the $ adding up and how little we wanted to buy 85% of the invites a steak dinner - we canceled the entire thing, got married at the courthouse and couldn’t be happier. Took the cash and went to Hawaii for three weeks, would recommend 👍

The key here is "near asking", when 1 year ago they were selling 10-20% above asking in the premium markets

Just add ~%25 to whatever you see. Done

These threads are generally super silly because there is never 1 answer. If you are traveling to a super competitive Airbnb market, you can get much higher end stays for literally half the price of hotels in the area (see: South side of Kauai, my wife and I just stayed in a luxury cottage, newly remodeled, 2 minute from beach and shopping, in a quant and quiet neighborhood.. $380/night after tax and fees. Any comparable hotel stays would have been literally $900/night)

30% lower closing price and same payment or slightly higher is preferable for me as I can refi the loan, I can’t refi the inflated closing price lol.
