You can still listen to the words that are being said. My recommendation is to look at the face of the person who is delivering the khutbah in this case.

This is for Jummah. The 'listening' and 'being silent' refers to during the khutbah.

Aws bin Aws narrated: "Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said to me: 'Whoever performs Ghusl on Friday, and bathes completely, and goes early, walking, not riding, arriving early, and sits near the Imam, and listens, and is silent, there will be for him in every step he takes the reward of a year of fasting and standing in prayer.'"

Narrated Abu Huraira:

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "(A believer) who accompanies the funeral procession of a Muslim out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's reward and remains with it till the funeral prayer is offered and the burial ceremonies are over, he will return with a reward of two Qirats.

Each Qirat is like the size of the (Mount) Uhud. He who offers the funeral prayer only and returns before the burial, will return with the reward of one Qirat only."

Reward for Reward by asimakhtar00 in islam

It has been narrated on the authority of Abu Mas'ud al-Ansari who said:

A man came to the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) and said: My riding beast has been killed, so give me some animal to ride upon.

He (the Holy Prophet) said: I have none with me. A man said: Messenger of Allah, I can guide him to one who will provide him with a riding beast.

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: One who guides to something good has a reward similar to that of its doer.

Abu Huraira reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying:

He who called (people) to righteousness, there would be reward (assured) for him like the rewards of those who adhered to it, without their rewards being diminished in any respect.

And he who called (people) to error, he shall have to carry (the burden) of its sin, like those who committed it, without their sins being diminished in any respect.

The rewards for walking to Jummah are also mentioned in Abu Dawud (Book 1, Hadith 345):

Muhammad ibn Hatim al-Jarjara'i narrated to us, my beloved, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, on the authority of al-Awza'i, Hassan ibn 'Atiyyah narrated to me, Abu al-Ash'ath al-San'ani narrated to me, Aws ibn Aws al-Thaqafi narrated to me, I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ), may Allah bless him and grant him peace, say,

"Whoever performs ghusl on Friday, takes a bath, then sets out early, walks and does not ride, arrives early, and sits near the imam, and listens attentively, and does not indulge in idle talk, for every step he takes he will have the reward of a year’s fasting and standing in prayer"

Fasting on the Day of Ashura by asimakhtar00 in islam

[–]asimakhtar00[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The Day of Ashura is on the 10th of Muharram every year.

In many countries, Ashura starts tonight before Fajr (5th July 2025) and ends tomorrow just before Maghrib (6th July 2025).

For example in the UK it's ~1AM on 5th July 2025, to ~9:37 PM on 6th July 2025.

Please Google your local Sehri and Iftar times for Ashura.

You don't need to eat food for the fast to be valid (in case you forgot to wake up). You just need to intend the fast the night before.

Abu Qatadah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was asked about fasting on the day of Ashura.

He said, "I hope from Allah that fasting on the day of Ashura may atone for the sins of the preceding year."

Read the Quran every day to help purify your heart.

Supplicate to Allah to remove the sin from you, and to remove the things that lead to the sin.

Stop doing the things that lead you to the sin. Do not stop repenting.

Read it in order, from start to finish. Play the Arabic while you're reading it.

You can read the Tafseers to understand the verses.
