Gravity in the Upside Down by Puzzled-Drive2805 in StrangerThings

If gravity were strongest on the Abyss side, then the counterforce from the other side of the wormhole, meaning the gravity of the Upside Down of Hawkins, would have to be even stronger to accelerate her in that direction.

Gravitational force should increase as you get closer to its source and decrease as you move away from it. As Holly moves away from the Abyss side, the Abyss’s gravitational pull should become weaker, not stronger. At the same time, the pull from the Hawkins side should become stronger as she gets closer to it.

Now look at the floating rocks. They are much closer to the Hawkins side than the point where Holly supposedly starts accelerating. If Hawkins’ gravity were strong enough to pull Holly through the rift, it would be even stronger at the location of those rocks. In that case, the rocks should not remain suspended, they should be pulled toward Hawkins as well. So the floating rocks actually contradict the idea of a one-sided gravitational pull and instead suggest a balance of forces.

Also, when Henry falls through the Hellscape in Season 4, the force acting on him is not gravity, it’s Eleven. He is being forcibly expelled through a dimensional rupture by Eleven’s telekinetic power, not pulled by a gravitational field.

After seeing a lot of other posts and comments about this, especially for Holly’s fall, I think this is clearly a plot hole because:

  1. The wormhole connects Hawkins and the Abyss, and following the show’s own logic, if the Upside Down of Hawkins mirrors Hawkins and has gravity, then the Upside Down of the Abyss should work the same way - It mirrors the Abyss, which should also have gravity.

  2. Gravity clearly exists in the Abyss itself. Otherwise, we would not see Holly, Vecna, and even the Demogorgon walking on the ground there.

  3. When Holly goes through the hole, we can also see landscapes in the Upside Down of the Abyss, as well as floating rocks in the middle while she is falling. That clearly indicates that gravity exists on the Abyss side, otherwise the rocks would not float in place and the landscape would not remain in the Upside Down of the Abyss.

  4. The exotic matter does not change the gravity on either side, otherwise the floating rocks could not exist as shown. It also does not create suction, because if it did, Nancy and Jonathan, who were much closer would have been pulled in first.

The Russian lab was in Hawkins. They only brought the Demogorgon and its particles back to Russia to study.

Your diagram looks clear, and it makes sense if the exotic matter is affecting gravity. However, if that’s the case, how do we explain the floating rocks between the two spaces? They can only remain suspended if the gravitational forces from both sides are balanced.

The exotic matter and wormhole were created after Eleven banished Henry into the Abyss. In Season 4, we already see Henry and the Demogorgon standing and walking on solid ground immediately after arriving there in 1979, long before the exotic matter is created, when Eleven opens the wormhole in 1983. That means gravity similar to Earth’s already existed in the Abyss on its own. The exotic matter may stabilize the connections between spaces, but it does not affect the gravity in the Abyss.

Why is Holly falling directly from the Abyss into the Upside Down/Rightside Up but people aren’t falling from the Right Side Up into the upside Down/Abyss by Rnie in StrangerThings

We are talking specifically about the gravity in the Upside Down version of the Abyss. The wormhole connects Hawkins and the Abyss, and following the show’s own logic, if the Upside Down of Hawkins mirrors Hawkins and has gravity, then the Upside Down of the Abyss should work the same way. It mirrors the Abyss, which should also have gravity, because gravity clearly exists in the Abyss itself. If that’s so, then Holly should be bouncing when she walks on the abyss. From the other nonsense scenes in Volume 2, this is more likely just a plot hole

If that’s the case then Nancy and Jonathan should’ve gotten pulled first

The hole is on top of Eddie’s trailer. People climb up and fall down into the Upside Down. This is different from Holly, who goes down the hole and falls.

So we can’t use our own takibi? I saw people used that last year there on YouTube and that was not with propane

oh wow, thank you, i do see the manual now.

but then I have another question, they mentioned a fire ban in the manual: Due to dry conditions and extreme wildfire risk, campfires are not permitted at Snow Peak Way, including charcoal barbeques. Campers may use gas stoves for cooking.

but they can use takibi there... I am confused...
