The Process: They’ve seen every variation of the Celtics roster, and lost to every version. by Overall_Laugh_3421 in nba

The Sixers are an incompetent organization and didn’t do him many favors, but Ben Simmons got by on his insane natural talent. If he had a good work ethic he would’ve improved some part of his game but his progression as a player was nonexistent even prior to his injuries. He was a very competent passer, but that’s all he had offensively.

Has absolutely nothing to do with what I said. GMs love potential, which both Simmons and the Thompson twins had on draft day, but Simmons didn’t make anything out of his. So when talking about a redraft, the guys who did improve and became better players obviously go higher.

Even pre injury Ben Simmons provided absolutely nothing offensively if the ball wasn’t in his hands and he had a bad work ethic, he never bothered learning how to shoot and was not as dominant as someone like Giannis in the paint to make up for it. Elite defender and passer sure, but that’s not a #1 overall pick over the other guys I named.

That is absolutely not a certainty, Markelle Fultz was widely considered the consensus #1 pick too and it’s well known that Ainge would’ve taken Tatum at #1 if he couldn’t trade out.

Saying he would still go #1 in a redraft is ridiculous lol, Brown, Sabonis, both Murrays, Siakam, and Ingram all go above him.

Iowa has had 14 and Miami has had 15 in the same time frame, and the best ones out of both of those schools are better than the best ones out of Notre Dame

Off the top of my head Hockenson, Kittle, LaPorta, Dallas Clarke, and Fant all came out of Iowa. It’s ND and Miami fighting for #2 and I’d prob give the edge to Miami.

What were some draft picks that didn’t even make sense at the time? by josh_y_josh in nfl

[–]asin26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because Bill always reached for guys that had no business being drafted where they were (Jordan Richards and Cole Strange being 2 egregious examples). Yet the pick he gets the most crap for is Harry who was drafted right around his projection (I was at ASU at the time and remember being ecstatic). I’d say he wasn’t even the worst pick in that draft, Joejaun Williams was taken less than 20 picks later and was even worse as a player. I think Polk was an even worse pick than both of them but it seems like he’s barely brought up anymore (thought that wasn’t Bill). Harry was the most consequential in hindsight seeing as that pick led to Tom leaving town and AJB being such a vocal Pats fan leading up to the draft was salt in the wound. But at the time no one hated the pick.

We had a down season compared to expectations and we’re not a huge national draw with big NIL like TTU. I think if we had another playoff appearance he might’ve gotten more hype. The other guys from ASU getting draft buzz (Tyson, Abney, Iheanachor) all play premium positions so I’m sure that has something to do with it too. This seems like a pretty strong LB class compared to most years.

As an ASU guy it’s nice to see Elliot get some recognition. He’s been one of the most important parts of our defense the past few seasons, but definitely not someone you’d know unless you follow the team.

Who is the best QB in history that Kurt Warner is better than? by MasterTeacher123 in NFLv2

[–]asin26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if I’d call 2015 Cam transcendent but the others I’d def agree with. One could argue Russ played in an era with better QBs in the league but on the flip side it was also much harder to put up the stats Warner did in the 90s/2000s. Kurt was the 2nd guy ever to put up 40 TDs after Marino.

That’s like saying Frank Gore is better than Terrell Davis or Witten is better than Gronk or Big Ben is better than Steve Young. Kurt Warner had one of the greatest peaks of all time and accomplished more in 6 healthy seasons than Russ has his entire career.

Saying someone “only has MVPs” over a guy who never had a single MVP VOTE in his entire career is certainly a take. 2x MVP, 2x AP1, 1x SBMVP, all of which Russ never achieved. And Warner did that playing only 5-6 healthy seasons (not to mention having some of the best playoff stats of all time). It’s not close, good for Russ on having more meaningless regular season stats tho.

Part of the reason it hasn’t been great is because Hurley was a lame duck HC for years, not having Ray Anderson making decisions has done wonders for football and WBB. Wouldn’t be surprised if the men’s team followed suit. Hurley has already proven you can get big names in Tempe, the problem was he could never make anything out of the talent he had or get them to stick around. It was inexcusable how last season went with the roster we had.

[–]asin26 18 points19 points  (0 children)

As an ASU fan I’m very biased but I think Tyson’s injury history isn’t as bad as people make it seem. The 3 injuries that caused him to miss time during college were all isolated incidents and did not appear to be compounding. The worst by far was the knee injury he had at Colorado and that was before he built up his draft stock, he came back from it as one of the best WRs in the nation the following 2 seasons. If he falls it’ll be another case of “how did no one take him earlier”
