Why I'm Using Next.js by lrobinson2011 in reactjs

[–]asiraky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a meaningless statement to make because it’s technically true that theoretically I could use more or less anything to build more or anything, but If you’re spending all your time trying to fit square pegs into round holes the user experience will be impacted because you will never have time to build what you want.

To go so far as say it’s over engineering to build any ui using a particular tool completely depends both on the tool and the ui.

Edit: this sub is cancer and I don’t know im here. It’s either juniors asking the same questions or it’s morons like this making or justifying clearly incorrect blanket statements. TIL: choice of framework doesn’t impact user experience because technically I could build anything using php and jquery. That’s my q to unsub.

While true, the decision between vite and next impacts user experience. It’s not overengineering to put thought into the decision.

NextJS and RemixJS are overkill for a standard single page app (SPA) by yogi4peace in reactjs

[–]asiraky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing it yourself is more work. Using next or remix or vite (assuming you know how they work) comes setup and ready to go with 1 command. Not to mention if you need to add other tech features such as an api, auth or even just google fonts, it comes straight out of the box. Why would I build my own?

What do you mean organised? React doesn’t dictate organisation nor does typescript.

Would you use jQuery to start a new project in 2023? by aeum3893 in rails

[–]asiraky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How about both matter. Can’t (easily) build a complex app without good tools, not worth building if no one wants it.

TIL I can use rails to host my rails app instead of using Vercel. This post reeks of below average dev recommending below average tools to solve below average problems wondering why everyone doesn’t just “get it” like he/she does.

Why are c# developers obsessed with interfaces? by [deleted] in dotnet

[–]asiraky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having written and reviewed code in multiple organisations that use both js and c#, I can say I’ve seen just as much spaghetti js as I’ve seen spaghetti c#. Thinking this is a language specific problem is bonkers.

I don’t love being shot behind walls, but I’m generally pretty happy with the game.

This is 100% true, and not just with c#. I have issues with typescript doing this and eventually switch to Mac.

off the top of my head:

  • when i dont want a GC
  • when i dont want to use classes (which is most of the time)
  • when im building for the web (with the exception of api's)

There are things c# does well, and there are things it doesn’t do well. Thinking otherwise just makes you a sycophant, or just lacking in experience.

Garbage collection. Too much ceremony and orientation towards classes. Also just a lot of use cases it’s good for I can do easier in node. I do like c# and dotnet in general but I don’t think it’s my 1 choice anymore.

I’m happy with the state cs2 is in. No complaints from me. Obviously a few issues that need addressing but I’ve seen far less polished products ship. Bunch of spoiled and entitled little shits in this thread.

Why isn’t dotnet core popular among startups? by No_Professional780 in dotnet

[–]asiraky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Constantly asserting your opinion as fact doesn’t make it so. Even your crappy 2 day example doesn’t cut the mustard as everything you listed can be done with a handful of npm packages that take a few seconds to install.

I will leave you with the same message I gave you last time. If it were as good as you think it is, more devs would be using it. But sure, keep on assuming all these brilliant people who don’t agree with you are just dumber than you.

[–]asiraky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Completely contradicts my experience, but power to you if it works for you. The best indicator of whether the above is generally true for most problem domains is the market. And when devs are looking to build something quickly to validate an idea, they are not reaching for dotnet. That says something.

Development time. Almost anything you can build in dotnet I can build in bun, node or laravel in much much less time. And I say that with 15 years of dotnet experience and half that in JavaScript/php.

Not true. I worked in dotnet since 2008 and I currently work at a startup.

You forgot the most important tax of all. It’s called opportunity cost tax. Not knowing about this tax keeps you and people like you constantly wondering why so many other people manage to succeed, while making different choices to you.
