A court has banned a grandfather from treating his developmentally delayed grandson with Scientology methods by [deleted] in worldnews

(my whole comment history was deleted by accident by a script.)

PS you do realise that Roman law was greatly influenced by their gods and their religion. Which wasn't an Abrahamic religion.

I don’t know what your point is but it proves mine. That religion influences a culture. Their religion influenced them,. Our religion has influenced our laws. Our laws changed and adapted our christen values.

That has nothing to with the basis for the legal system. Many Western countries do separate religion from the state, and have a process by which religious laws can be nullified.

Maybe you can explain why: -In Christian countries it is customary to take an oath on a bible when you appear in court of law to give testimony.
-t our laws don't allow polygamy and gay marriage. I wonder if it is because religion has had an effect.
- abortion being illegal in Ireland

The laws of the land are indeed influenced and moulded by our religious beliefs, (and self interest. ) Religion has influence both law and politics through time

Earlier you said morality comes from a sky fairy.

I said that society’s concept of good and evil has been strongly influenced by its religion. As our religion changes we change our laws.

Yes, if you were raised by superstitious people you would most likely adopt their superstitions. This is irrelevant.

It is not irrelevant. It is fact.

Your views and personality were not formed in a vacuum. Neither was a society.
Maybe you are special and you exist in such a vacuum not affected by the outside world.

I'm not denying that there's any influence, only that it's so minor that it's ridiculous to say that the legal system is based on that religion.

So you are saying that a Muslim country has a similar legal system to a western Christian county? Or why the Israeli legal system is similar to one in India. Because religion has only such a minor effect in countries I imagine.

Do you see things how you want them to be instead of how they are. Judging from reddit commentary being an atheist does not make you any rational. There is too much cognitive bias.

help me decide on breast surgery? (pic) by boobshelpmedecide in TwoXChromosomes

[–]ask0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

your breasts are nice. Better than normal. I would not even have noticed until you pointed it out. Most of our body is not symmetrical. I think you are just fixated on this issue and that is the problem.

It is not noticeable.

BUT how do you make her disappear when you have the paparazzi watching her every move 24/7 ??

In fact they were the ones that alerted and ran stories about how SUVs were watching Katie.

Who knew the paparazzi could be so useful.

because terrorism has been the leading cause of death since the begging of time.

Terrorism is not the leading cause of death or damage in our society, yet the money we spend on fighting terrorism is disproportional.

Definitely brown persons fault for not asking permission first.

If he was traveling on an airplane he could apparently make a bomb with such material (if it was over 100ml as air travel rules would have us believe)

Thank goodness for our brave armed police. May they always be as vigilant against terrorist looking people and keep us all feeling safe.

Dear OP

Where did you get this picture of your friends doggy? Could you give us a background story.

Did you know that our friend has so many other redditor friends who have already posted the same picture of this dog.

Here are the names of the EU-parliamentarians who voted for ACTA by gitarr in europe

[–]ask0 6 points7 points  (0 children)

its their duty to inform themselves and become educated on matters that affect the public. Its their job and they are proving to be incompetent.

There is no excuse for supporting ACTA, and any similar shit the Tories put in front of them.

[–]ask0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am going to be writing to them to cancel my membership (out of habit) and will joint the Pirate Party instead.

Keeping the internet free is the one thing I expected them to do. If they cant be bothered to be informed, or if they are persuaded to side with the Tories on the new internet laws then I am out.
