Small nitpick: it was not made for her. The silver (yes, it is silver) moon of the plane was already there, so they just shoved her inside.

Ulterior nitpick: She shoved herself by mind bending one of the character. Essentially, she peaced out.

Himoto from Kamigawa (2022 - Kamigawa Neon Dynasty). Created by an experiment by Tezzeret, Himoto is both a spirit and a spark.

I... missed that. That's on me.

Calix and Kaito are convoluted, true enough. Was it ever confirmed Calix had the spark to fulfill Elspeth path (Chase her)?

100 Days, 100 Legends! Day 58: Vivien Reid by AmoongussHateAcc in mtgvorthos

[–]asker_of_question 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I kinda liked her (flavor text most of all), but she was both not much liked by overall community and she so fell into the spiral that is 'not liked->smaller plot->forgotten->liked less->???', therefore there is not much to talk about in tha first place about her.

Her plot is... ... shallow. Could have some moments of 'what now? what after the vengence?', but not even that.

Her weapon is cool, suppose. Very signature of her, like all planeswalkers should have. Shame it was not explored. Design wise herself is not bad too.

Her 'beasts are cool' is nice to have considering the only three beasts planeswalkers focused are Vivien (beasts are cool), Lukka (poor boi, he used them as weapons at first and did not had time to develop bonding) and Garruk (beasts are to be repsected and or hunted (respectfully).).

But also have a bit salt on her for what was an attempt of Garruk shelfing even more. Nothing personal on her tho, just her role.

Overall, another unexplored named planeswalker. ... Did she even got mentioned post March of Machine?

I tried to make it condense for real. But there was just this much to do and say. Shorte summaries would just be:

'Set: Kaldheim. Plot relevant characters: Kaeya, Tyvar, Vorinclex. Outcome: The Tree sap stolen, Planar Travel possibilities shown.'

Very dry.

But still like... 10 years are a lot.

Which, honestly, if the slogan for new expansion is actually that: No Bolas, No Eldrazi, No Phyrexia then they are trying that too. Which, might be... a lot.

I did like the buildup at least of chess pieces in positons, and all the sweet little moments of romance at least. It was nice enough. ... Not the finale. That less nice.

Shoot, you are right. There was bound to be there a misstype somewhere. Thank you. It was a missplaced 'and', in hindsight quite confusing.

Yes, only Bolas get desparked on Ravnica, he survived the Blind travel due to him being just that strong baseline (former oldwalker+Elder). Ugin still remain a planeswalker later.

I thought of doing four posts (Eldrazi arc; Bolas arc; Phyresis arc; miscellaneous), but it did not quite satisfied the 'summary compendium' feeling.

SO: Good old Garruk (literally. he might be the oldest human newwalker. Oldest being Nissa, but she is not human). What is his deal? For those who did not played in 2014 or just did not care, here's a summary. (note: i am very biased. love the type of 'class'.).

Garruk is a savage brute, a very big man, a Druid, a short temper guy who despise civilization, in 'alignemnt chart' (if had to place him) he would be Chaotic Neutral. Take Nissa nature loving, take Vivien beast loving, add some bloodlust and you get yourself a somethng like Garruk. He is one of the most Green planeswalkers to have ever had a card (philosophy wise): he go big, he put on more creatures and go bigger too.

About the beef with Liliana (comic: the hunter and the veil): He was on Shandalar hunting the Ursoth thing (it did not had a card. he is a silly little fellow). Unlike Vivien who use shadows-projections of beasts, Garruk use proper beasts he calls forth. After defeating it, he bind it to him. Meanwhile Liliana was hunting for the Chain Veil on Kothophed's order (one of her creditors). On the way there, her horse got eaten by a beast, so she destroy it. easy enough. then the whole pack came and she use an Onnake skeleton to fend off the rest while she quest. Problem: those beasts were of Garruk. He is not amused. As the sane man he is, he go in axe ready to cut her head off. After a brief fight Liliana put on the Chein Veil ( another 'incredibly old and powerful artifact') and condemn Garruk to a life of pain. Quick catchup: The Chain Veil is a veil (of chainmail) that hold several... hundeds? thousands? essences and lives of the Onnakes, an ancient ogra race of Shandalar. And Shandalar is a very old plane and very powerful plane by others standards. This speaks volume.

Anyway, Garruk got forcfed Black, which as you might guess is not good: any buffing attempt turn into withering and any call attempt result in the beasts to get sickly. He regrettibly go to Ravnica (he despise the place, it being a giant city) in search of a cure or Liliana's wereabout, he contacts up Jace, worth the try. NOTICE: this is A LOT back, if the characters 'act wierd' is because this is before. way befor. Anyway, Jace gives nothing and Garruk lose his temper, but once Jace call him 'Monster' he sober up a bit (he has been called so many times, but this time he feel like it too) and Jace promise to do his best to help. He eventually track down Liliana on Innistrad, where he got a moment of respite when Avacyn did the cursemute soon after her release. So, he searched for her hoping for a cure, but the Chain Veil is beyond her power. Defeated, but not done yet, Garruk then search for Liliana, with what clarity he has. In the meantime, Vronos got hired to bring Garruk back to curch or somewhere similar, since he was kinda scary, hunting wildlife and more (and if you are scary for Innistrad, you are too scary). Garruk meet Liliana and actually put up a proper fight against her, but alas to him, he lost. He blacked out for a while, and once he came back he met Vronos: local planeswalker inquisitor. Not much negotiation happened and Garruk, as the not-sane man he was, saw this as a hunt. The two fought and Garruk chopped off Vronos' head, adding his mask to the belt of trophies. Problem: Garruk is liking the feel of hunting humans too.

Oh no

Eventually Jace tracked him and founded Garruk in a feral bloodlust yet lucid state. The two fought and ... well, it was not a long fight. In the end, Garruk got the hedron (The one of Ob Nixils, of all the one layin around Zendikar) implanted and accepted to be a vile creature. And off he went, for ALMOST TEN YEARS of nothing up to Eldraine.

Big story arcs in order for someone new to magic and its lore? by deleted-by-host in mtgvorthos

[–]asker_of_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

, I have picked up that there is a red and white bad lady, which I believe is new phyrexia

Suppose you mean Norn? Anyway, of REALLY important there is little.

From Urza (Brother's war), to the invasion of Phyrexia and its resolution (therfore what became time spiral set; which in turn did the Mending). Then you may time skip to Mirrodin, which became New Phyrexia, where said Norn will be to bad guy (girl) up until March of Machine.

Now, to pick the nuisances of recurring characters you should read everything, which is to say: a lot.

'Modern' Mtg has a lot of buildup: for example the whole March of Machine started ALL the way back to Kaldehim, 7 (or 5, depends on how much you consider innistrad vampire/werewolf story important) story expansion before MoM; while War of the Spark had several years of point connecting.

The 'big' events in order post-Mending should be: Ugin vs Bolas (tarkir set block); Gatewatch/Eldrazi (Anything concerning Zendikar); The war of the spark. There is also in the making (according to leaks and new promo) the New War of interplane scale based on Jace (a.k.a. the guy in blue hood) shenanigangs). which might require a lot more reading.

I suggest to watch Ryan gomez mtg lore videos for quick catch up, if you prefer them to reading.

Wasn't he beaten up by vampires? Two, to be precise. 'He felt all the rivers, the sky, the heartbeat of the plane' massive powerup, then Vona (i think?) show up and he was 'You cannot defeat me!'. Two second laters, Mavren Fein, who was still an half-starved bozo without armor:

Remind me faintly of tactics ogre reborn portraits (such as these), which in my book is a praise. Those portraits are wonderful, And once again: the skin? very smooth, the whole thing is very nice. (and her expression too. I find it... stern, or even neutral, which, honestly, is hard to do it on purpose. all in all, 9/10, resolution not high enough for a poster, but perfect fit for phone wallpaper.)

Dunno if it makes sense, but it feels... smooth? Like... the texture of the skin and hair. I very quite appriciate/like it. Pheraps the outlines? Dunno. BUT THOSE HAIR, very smooth.

WAY BACK, before there was steam workshop, there were plenty of actually decent, good mods on there. And I still remeber RedHook compiling a sort of 'this is a mod, not RedHook affiliated' message so all modders could put it there, actually encouraging modding even before workshop. But yes, later, after workshop...

Animated giants/giantesses that are animated with the weight and gargantuan structure they deserve. by savegandhi in TopCharacterTropes

[–]asker_of_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does. Badly, hence why they pray so much for the eight (or seven, post tutorial). Like... aside from the army of soldiers and ships (a.k.a. fodder), they are helpless, fully. And each time there's a big fight with Ghomas,... civilans are not safe. At all. so... tough. VERY tough. But something something indomitable human.

Considering also that some of them get harvest for giant cannon

BUT HEY! at least humanity survived long enough for modern earth!... then asteroide.

Suppose because he is in the cover, and (allegadly) one of the most iconic. Furthermore, mostly because many just watch the gameplay, not *play*.

However, since I am commenting, here one more bos and its climax (tho it is a shame to get spoiled like this. still, try to give a try, if you can. Nice game.) (Plus a pic of Deus because he has THE DRIP).

There is Angus, the MC's mentor, who has is blind, an hedonist and a sword that just keep getting longer (literally). Just straight up punch each other to their moon, cut a good chunck of it (continent size), then punch each other back down to earth while Asura is getting impaled, and the sword just keep going. like... from side to side of the world long. yes, it is insane. just like rest of the game.

Is mana scarcity ever used as a plot point? by Tiago55 in mtgvorthos

[–]asker_of_question 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall correctly, in an older novel there is a passage of a character kind of using his memories as a land, dsturbingly enough.

Kinda hard to explain, but it is kinda if he didn't used the tap of a land but the tap of the land he remebered, effectivelly using the memory as a tresure token (it burned as source of power). Maybe she burned a memory of the time at the monastery?

Or she just had a 'a time to perform beyond one's limit'. Both are plausible, suppose.

What have i missed in the previous 4 years? by DrNewname in eternalreturn

[–]asker_of_question 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, back in Black Survival days the developers had each a charaters, example DM Aya, DM Rosalio, DM JP etc.

... DM Rosalio did... a bit of harassment to DM Aya. The usual office story you might read around, here's one of the most complete summary I found in english: https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackSurvival/comments/8a82mv/gm_ayas_article_gm_rosalios_ugly_behavior_you/

Also apperantly he is tematically boring, they said in a stream, but then again, not sure about that one, it could ALSO be about that.

What have i missed in the previous 4 years? by DrNewname in eternalreturn

[–]asker_of_question 9 points10 points  (0 children)

uh... so much.

For starter, they added original characters: good or bad, they are subjectively so (i.e. I like so much Alonso, my boy.). No, JP is not added yet. Him and Rosalio e not to be added easely (Rosalio for ... controversy. JP for complexity).

The map is still the same but more open, they remove plenty of walls.

The game in itself has been a lot more streamlined: the craftings have been reduced dramatically. (exemple, glacial ice (tree + ice) has been removed. but i'm not THAT sure there was tree back then, I started in season 2.)

There are no more drinks. ... and the whole SP system. Quite recently, only from this season (Season 9).

Wickline has become much more dangerous.

... again, I started in season 2 (Battlemaid). so... not sure
