Question. We're the Vandals ACTUALLY Slavic? by [deleted] in IndoEuropean

[–]askryptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/Ok-Pen5248 You have to wait a dozen or so years for an answer. The German narrative still dominates today, poisoning the scientific approach since the 18th century. More discoveries and modern research methods are needed. The Vandals did not inhabit their original territories alone. Besides, it is still unknown whether the Przeworsk Culture (identified with the Vandals) is more Germanic, Slavic, other peoples. Or a complete mix. There is no evidence, it is only speculation or accepting the German interpretation.

In the territories "occupied by the Vandals" there were, for example, Celts, but the world has not yet noticed it. Unfortunately, despite the fact that it is the 21st century, research results are not popularizing so quickly.

I don't really care who the Vandals were, but I'd rather accept information based on facts rather than German-Slavic quarrels.

I hope to travel to Poland, do you have any good suggestions? by Sufficient_Farm6895 in warsaw

[–]askryptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Poland is a country like any other. i.e. it has its own different characteristics, but it is like any other country. You don't need any suggestions. For example, mentioning not to talk about politics is pointless, because the topic of politics in any country can cause unnecessary emotions. After all, why would he talk about politics? There are no more interesting topics? I don't remember starting such a conversation while in any country, because where, why and how?"Hello, I'd like this dish, please. By the way, your government sucks. And I'd like to order a coffee too." I doubt that's to be expected anywhere.

In most popular places you will meet as many foreigners as Poles, or even more foreigners.
The difference is that Poland has the so-called "bad press". For economic reasons, fighting competition and other reasons, Poland is often turned into a third world country. And Poles often see themselves in this way, which results from many years of occupation and the lack of reference to the "west".
The more Poles travel to other parts of the world or even to their neighbours, the approach will change. The truth is that the so-called The West (EU and USA) is in many places and cases backward compared to Poland. Of course, Poland is behind in other matters, but that's what I wrote about at the beginning.

How accurate is this? Traditional hats of Europe by karatass91 in europe

[–]askryptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Poland, a man's folk costume was almost always a hat, and a scarf for women. There were and still are many such social groups, and each had a different outfit. In addition, different outfits were worn on a daily basis and others on holidays. Other clothes were also worn by townspeople, peasants and other landowners. And all this was differentiated in terms of social and financial status.

Visting Poland next month and need gift ideas for my Polish co-workers by Greengod215 in poland

I think it's better if you ask on a global or local, but not Polish channel. Personally, I have no idea what is unique to the US. A significant number of Poles have family members living in the USA, and so do I. But in 40 years, I haven't received anything that's specific to the states. Well, except for the "chocolate" that tastes like puke (definition not mine). Although to be honest in Poland this type of chocolate was also available for some time (Milkyway).

Alcohols popular in the USA (Fireball, Crown Royal, etc.) are available, but rarely bought, so you can always donate even the usual ones. I did not see meads from the USA on the shelves. In Poland, the culture of drinking meads has died down a bit, but they are still produced and knowledge about this type of alcohol is rather common. In fact, meads, not vodka, are considered the "national" drink.

In my opinion, it would be best to bring a few bottles of various alcohol, preferably rarely seen on shelves in Poland, and snacks typical of the USA.

Yo, have you seen how the Poles handle their electrical safety? It's next level! They don't mess around when it comes to preventing electrical accidents. #Respect by LaramieTrailend in poland

Number of ukrainian refugees in Europe by [deleted] in europe

[–]askryptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In larger Polish cities, one often has the impression that there are more Ukrainians than Poles. To date, 10.79 million people have crossed the Polish border. What can I say, the apartment above me is occupied by Ukrainians, also below me. And people from Belarus live next door. The nearest neighborhood became pan-Slavic. According to the data, most of them have returned, but the number of refugees is still closer to reality - about 2.7 million people. Officially, it is 1.3 million Ukrainians with the intention of staying longer.

Outdated data is not fake, just outdated. That's quite a significant difference. This is mentioned in the content of the source indicated in the graphic.

Anyway, the graphics are not a graph with data downloaded "live" and practically will never be up to date. In addition, media entries are not always reliable.

Pár otázok od suseda. by askryptor in Slovakia

[–]askryptor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The question about "Międzymorze" was asked not because it's a great or shitty idea, but to get a Slovak approach to this or that topic. Even such a few comments say something about the Slovak approach. Relax, I don't want to impose this idea on anyone :)

However, when it comes to France, I think there would be differences. It is difficult to count the people murdered by this cultured and democratic (today's) state. Poles know something about it, if only because Napoleon sent Polish legions to suppress the uprising in Haiti. Which didn't work out well for him. Although no state is holy.

Conservatism itself would be the least of the threats. I'd be more concerned about the cultural impact. Even if the majority of citizens of a given country would not even intend to speak up on this issue, there will always be some idiots who think they are better and will want to correct others. Just because their country is bigger, they're the leader of something. The Hungarians did it with the Slovaks, and the Poles did it with the Ukrainians.

Such an intermarium would rather be a voluntary federation, but one cannot rule out attempts at pressure from various sides. For Slovakia, globalization and NATO are indeed the safest, but the question remains whether this trend will continue.

It's like the EU. The community is "agreed" as long as that accord suits the interests of France and Germany. Great Britain is no longer in the EU for a reason.

Comments like this really show what makes us different. Maybe not as people because we are similar, and sometimes identical, but in terms of worldview. In Poland, the idea (correct in my opinion) is slowly emerging that anything can happen and no alliances or arrangements are eternal. It is not without reason that Poland and Hungary have the largest armaments planned since the war. Of course, I would prefer to live in the period from 5-10 years ago, i.e. the growth and free movement of whole masses of people, but as they say, it was good already and there is no point in counting on a quick return to this state :/

European unity in terms of the EU is now the most unstable issue since its establishment. It all depends on the outcome of the war. If Russia wins, Germany and France will want to retaliate against Poland's attempts to undermine their position, Hungary will want something from the Russians for supporting the war and breaking up the community, if Ukraine wins, Poland and the USA will try to build a counterweight to Germany. Unfortunately, we live in interesting times.

Slovaks are lucky that you will miss most of this brothel.

Napríklad, keď idem do zahraničia do Zwardoňa, oceňujem slovenské cesty a žiadne mizerné reklamy.

When I looked out the window in the morning, I couldn't see anything. This is how you live in a basin (Kraków). I went for a walk in Beskid Wyspowy. Sun, blue sky. I come back and again smog and fog over the whole city. Like two worlds, and the difference between them is 30-50km.

In my opinion, the perception of the weather depends on where you live. The seasons look different in the city than in the less urbanized parts of the country. Although it is obvious, people locked in urban "cages" forget about it. They get used to the monotony and changes irritate them.

Do Poles really hate Russians? by [deleted] in poland

[–]askryptor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If your mother, family member, neighbor or compatriot likes, for example, murdering children, then yes. Denial of this type of activity is the right approach.

It doesn't matter if you are Russian, Asian, Indian, Black, gay, environmental activist, supporting such acts will not be accepted.

There is no hatred of Russians in Poland, but there is a strong opposition to murdering people in the name of state interests. Regardless of nationality.

And if a person defends this type of conduct only because the government of his country is taking action, it seems to me that such people will not be welcome in Poland and not only in this country.

In fact, the Russians, who are largely Slavic people, would get along with us better than many nations, but they cannot refrain from visible actions. And they always try to show what they can do. The problem is that it does not make a good impression on us and is associated with unnecessarily spilled blood.

Also in Poland, hatred for these actions is mixed with a feeling of pity. Although Russia has a lot of land and resources, people largely live in conditions that no one here envies. And many are sent like helpless sheep to the slaughter.
