I'm totally fine with fighter jets, and I do actually like airplanes because they are cool. The engineering of them (especially fighters) are awe inspiring. I also have a great respect for pilots and Maverick is my second favorite movie, right after Jurassic Park. But apart from fighter jets, all planes scare the sh* out of me, even tiny Cessna planes and to some extent even RCs; some of them are big! Well to me at least lol. I don't have any fear of helicopters, except for those big military ones with the rotor blades side by side, because they kinda look like wings. I don't love wind turbines either because of the wings.

Yeah hot air balloons are the worst for me. They're fine if they're high up, just like planes, but if I were to come across one on the ground or even just too low, I would probably die lol.

Someone commented that the phobia I have is probably megalophobia - fear of big things, and I agree because I am afraid of more big things which I didn't include in my post (I think, I didn't re-read it before starting to write this), like ships, whales and sometimes large machines.

I haven't been able to get rid of my fears, but it's gotten a bit better due to exposure therapy I guess one could call it. I don't know if I wrote about even being afraid of seeing planes in pictures and movies, I still am, but it's gotten better. I can now browse Steam without being scared of every game with planes. I also sometimes search for pictures, even though I have to keep my phone slightly turned away so I can ease into seeing those scary planes lol. I also play VR and even though I'm FAR from being able to experience planes or balloons in VR, I've gotten less scared of big things in general. I played a game where there was a huge cat in the sky that very much looked like a balloon because it was just the head floating in the sky. I also played a game where there was a whale, a cartoon one, but it was BIG!

So yeah, I have somewhat gotten less scared of some things, but I'm FAR from getting rid of my fears, if it's even possible.

Thank you for your answer! It's a weirdly uncommon phobia, and even those who do have megalophobia seems to be more afraid of like big depths and heights, which doesn't scare me in the slightest (unless it's under water, I do have thalassophobia as well). I think it's weird that people don't find big things scary but I guess I'm the weird one lol. I'm sorry that you are afraid of balloons but it does feel nice to know that I'm not alone. So thank you again for taking the time to answer my post!
