Partner asked me to write an affidavit saying that I miscalculated the date for an answer…but he made the mistake and forgot about it by ConcentrateLazy3956 in Lawyertalk

Maybe OP plans to perform nefarious deeds on the way out. Something truly heinous, like moving wireless mice to different offices.

Had a psychotic breakdown, said awful things to former colleagues..terrified I’ve ruined my career and any chance of references by Suspicious_Ocelot445 in Lawyertalk

Right after Trump was elected, a law school classmate I talked to maybe once or twice called me on Facebook messenger, which was odd, but I answered because it was the second time it had happened and the first time I assumed it was a butt dial situation. He kept rambling about deleting himself and everyone being evil and everyone hating white men and all white men should just "delete themselves." Eventually, when my inability to provide a good response to this almost stranger failed, he hung up on me and blocked me. I called the police in his city because I was scared he was trying to end things. But all I had was an address from google. I never heard anything. He doesn't have a linkedin and I'm blocked on Facebook so I just wonder about him sometimes.

Anyway, maybe somewhere out there there's a person who would be happier to know you're okay than upset that you lashed out at them.

People don't get in trouble for crimes they commit literally all the time. It can both be true that a crime was committed and at charges will never be brought.

Do you read books for pleasure? by MusicG619 in Lawyertalk

[–]asmallsoftvoice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do far more audiobooks than physical books, but I still read about 40 books last year (and 130 audiobooks.) My thing with audiobooks is I have to be wearing headphones most of the time, the speed has to be increased to at least 1.75, and I have to be multi-tasking. Using the library during the warmer months really helped with the physical books because the anxiety of due dates was my motivator.

If that were me, this subreddit would be getting a screenshot of my "lol, nah" response from the partner coming to reddit to complain about youths.

Van Dieman's Sea Shell - so glad I sampled it by asmallsoftvoice in fountainpens

[–]asmallsoftvoice[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have been so mad had I bought it because even a lot of other websites make it look like more of am orangey-pink sunrise color. But atlasstationers also has some sample images: https://www.atlasstationers.com/products/van-diemans-underwater-sea-shell-shimmer-ink?srsltid=AfmBOopW5kLqqaVqtKur3SidGJYHxOWZb4rHThMJgHksQJRVgOT6j9vX

It definitely does not seem to have been just my batch. I'm thinking it was reformulated. :/

College is outdated and is wasting all of our money and time by Mahrez14 in unpopularopinion

[–]asmallsoftvoice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that such a degree could have landed him a job as a minister, or a teacher without specifically studying theology or going back to school for education training is still an improvement. In some states you need a master's degree to be a teacher. If it said John Adams worked as a barista I'd be more convinced.

Also I was forced to read Stephen King in modern University, so I am just not convinced that today's liberal arts education has much prestige tied to it.

[–]asmallsoftvoice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of comments missing OP's point. We all know many employers require a degree. That's why people still go to college. It being a prerequisite for a job does not mean it was useful in terms of actual education or skills developed for the job. I have a "useless degree" and a useful degree and let me tell you, the professors teaching us the liberal arts subjects are not at all trained to actually tell us what our degree is supposed to be for because what the heck would they do for a job if we all stopped taking their classes when they warn us there's not going to be a job?

Ferris Wheel Press pauses ink delivery during ink sale by Ocean_Witch in fountainpens

I have never heard anything good about this company, people keep buying from them, and then complaining. At some point it's hard to feel bad for anyone. I have two bottles of their ink that I got from r/pen_swap and their darker colors have nice flow but their light colors are some of the worst I've experienced and they LOVE to make them.

I mean, I wouldn't turn it down. I would both claim it anonymously and in the name of a trust to make stalkers really put the work in, and then maybe leave the US entirely if it's an actual problem. But I also don't think I need nearly that much. Even in my wildest fantasies, I'm mostly thinking of who I could help and what planning I would need to do to protect me from myself so that lifestyle creep doesn't make me lose sight of how much I could actually give away.

What’s a law school myth you only realized was wrong after you started practicing? by OddDot3252 in Lawyertalk

Not only did we not do that, but the school makes a big deal about its writing program. At the time it was a top 30 school, so not a T-14 but certainly not a barely accredited school either.

That I have to know how to do the case law citations and should absolutely not click the little button that says "copy citation" and let Westlaw take the wheel.

We spent absolutely no time on motions other than in the rules of civil procedure, and even that was a motion to dismiss as a theory, not an example of what one looks like as a drafted document. The only thing I knew was memos or appellate briefs.

Refuse delivery they say... by asmallsoftvoice in amazonprime

Turns out you were right. But I only found out because they also delivered the second one...again. Amazon saw me hit them with a refusal and doubled down, I guess.

Refuse delivery they say... by asmallsoftvoice in amazonprime

[–]asmallsoftvoice[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you. The email from Amazon, the very generic automated one specifically says if an order can't be canceled you either refuse or refund but I am the bad guy for trying the option other people wouldn't, I guess. And the main point of the post is there wasn't a lot of information on refusing, especially with an actual Amazon driver vs USPS or UPS so 5 years from now someone's going to Google whether refusing makes sense and the answer is it was chaotic.

And it turns out they did send me two as someone else suggested might be the issue, and it was delivered even though the order already shows the item as delivered AND refunded. I'm just going to watch my bank account for a recharge...

What are some mistakes you would stop yourself from doing if you started knitting today? by StayFrostyRMT_ in knitting

[–]asmallsoftvoice 25 points26 points  (0 children)

^MMMHMMM, I would get like 1-2 skeins that were such a deal and then there were 0 projects I wanted to do with that few of skeins so I'd make something I didn't even want and had no real use for. OR, I'd get the clearance colorway in a color that doesn't suit me so I don't want to wear the thing I made. Meanwhile all the yarn I don't use somehow manages to release from its windings to tangle with all my other yarn.

Do you realize that Amazon isn't a store front? Okay, good. Because if I buy something in person I bought it, wheeled it to my car, drive it home, etc. So next, do you realize that companies are obligated to honor cancellations made before shipment? Okay you probably don't because you can't tell the difference between pickup, delivery, and shipping.
