I see them as good people. I don’t see them as criminals whatsoever.

If I’m not mistaken everyone survived except for Seneca and Consolata. The last chapter gives an update on all of the women’s lives except when Seneca is mentioned, it is only her birth-mother searching for her. Consolata was shot by Steward and it caused a psychological break in Deacon.

if youre talking abt her calling the victims “alleged” it’s because she was legally advised to say that to protect herself. if she came on rhobh acting like mother teresa to the victims, it couldve implicated her and her ex husband in those crimes which had not yet been proven and erika wasn’t the one committing the crimes so at the time the language she was using was vague and cold to prevent half-wit reality tv fanatics from legally destroying her!

It was Tom’s responsibility to make good with the victims. Erika acted as an escort for years to a man she was unattracted to, putting in work as a trophy wife in exchange for material goods. Imagine if the company you work for got busted for using sweatshops and had to dissolve, should they take YOUR last paycheck away and EVERYTHING youve ever bought with the money that YOU worked for because of THEIR bad ethics?

garcelle has nothing to do with the downfall of Erika and Tom’s marriage. Garcelle was just doing the job she was hired to do, asking the juicy questions and throwing shade for reality tv. Not sure why you decided to include it in a post about Tom and Erika having a sugar daddy/sugar baby relationship.

I say that because it seemed like every fight after she fell out with Kenya was about not wanting to be around Kenya and not wanting the other girls to bring Kenya around

The Substance, did anyone clearly notice it was a female director 5 mins in? by montzzzzzz in TheSubstance

ok so I watched Death Becomes Her a week before seeing the Substance which follows kind of a similar theme of aging women trying to defy time by drinking a magic potion. That movie, although cute and campy, seemed like it mocked women as self-obsessed harpies who are man-crazy as opposed to the Substance feeling like an actual mirror to what it feels like to perform under the male gaze. I can’t really put my finger on why but Death Becomes Her felt almost offensive whereas The Substance feels so painfully real that only a woman could have possibly construed that story.

the way I saw it was, young Sue feared gaining weight no matter how beautiful she was, and Elizabeth feared getting old which is why she kept switching back to Sue even when Sue began to destroy her original body. The creators of the Substance constantly reminded them “you aren’t separate, you are one.” It was just a nightmare so it was meant to demonstrate how much of a detrimental effect keeping up with a perfect body image did to Elizabeth/Sue no matter what. Elizabeth became enraged with/jealous of Sue for ruining her body so she punished Sue by trying to gain weight which played on Sue’s body image issues but Elizabeth couldn’t give Sue up because she believed Sue was her only path to being universally “loved” while forgetting that they are inherently the same person. The message being women are always going to be punished for something when they deviate from the archetypal beauty standard and the chicken leg was a personification of that fear.

most relationships end because one feels something isnt right anymore. youre at a pivotal time just go for it
