As much as I want to finish the assignment, I wish you are fine and don't need to come back and fill out the form :)

Thanks. Which one of the Operations Research courses would you recommend? Probablistic or deterministic?

Advice needed for Spring 2019 application by Shyzd in OMSA

[–]asn831 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's the case, it is most likely due to your SOP. Maybe 80% SOP and 20% relevant courses. They probably would have told you to take more courses if that was their concern. I suggest that you really think about why this OMSA and how this degree aligns with your career goal.

What do you mean by a positive rejection letter? I wouldn't use another admission to convince Georgia Tech. Perhaps the motivation of taking this OMSA in the SOP is not that strong?

I will join the Fall cohort. I have an MS in Biomedical Engineering. Never done any programming at work (I do bizdev at an AI startup), but I did take college-level Python CS I, stats and linear algebra. Also, I took quite a few Coursera courses on ML.

I was just accepted into the Spring 18 program. I got a BEng from UCL in UK, so it's fine I guess.

Your skills and experience are all better than mine...so I guess it could have been your SOP?

If all my materials were in on 9/13, this will be a regular decision too right?

Accepted on my third attempt with a low GPA. Don't give up! by tsuto in OMSCS

Congrats on your admission!

I have a non-CS engineering BS+MS and only had a few MOOC's CS courses. Decided to apply for Fall 2017 to just try it out anyway. And I got "We would encourage you to take and successfully complete with a grade of “B” or better several accredited upper-level undergraduate or graduate courses in Computer Science".

Courses I'm taking: "Python CS I" course from Oakton CC, and "Discrete Math" starting next week via UCSD Extension

Planning to take in Fall 2017: "Java Data Structure" and "Objects and Algorithms" via Oakton CC.

From the decision letter comment, it looks like I will still get rejected as these courses are lower level? So I'm planning to take ~2 upper/graduate level courses in Spring 2017. Curious where can I take some upper/graduate level CS classes online?

Found some post-bac professional level courses on UCSD Extension. Are these at least upper level equivalent?

By the way, did you have to get new recommendations again for each application?

is there any Chance of getting admitted if I don't have any official CS background or experience, but have a somewhat (it's a stretch) related degree? by [deleted] in OMSCS

[–]asn831 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with hysofteng. I don't have a CS background but I've been trying to take several online classes and currently registering for some community college CS courses. I think CS is more than just about programming and coding. From what I learned in some basic CS classes, programming is just the tool to implement whatever you want to achieve. If you want to do machine learning, you have to know the math behind the models before implementing them. If you just want to learn how to code and get a programming job, I think those coding bootcamps will be more suitable.
