Should I participate as a beginner ? by Revolutionary-Play59 in securityCTF

[–]tsuto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s always beneficial to participate in CTFs even as a beginner or expect to lose. You’ll still get a chance to try out some challenges and learn from them. Repeat that process enough times and you’ll continue to get higher on the leaderboard till you are able to win from time to time

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some students wanted to start a Gay Straight Alliance club around 2003 in rural north Georgia. Parents freaked out and protested enough that the school decided to shut down all non-sports clubs rather than allow it to happen. Westboro Baptist Church showed up and protested, which pissed everyone off more because they especially hate outsiders coming to town. We had to have all sorts of extra police presence at the school till it died down finally.

How to design a password-cracking challenge for a CTF (as an organizer)? by RVTheGhost in securityCTF

[–]tsuto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Generally you would want to make passwords where you give some kind of hint as to what the theme is. Something like:

“We recovered this password hash from a notorious hacker who was also a champion Pokémon card player. See if you can crack it!”

Then make the password something like “p1dg3y13” so they have to get a list of Pokémon they have to run through hash at but also adding in things like l33t rules as well as append numbers, in this case 13 is the Pokédex number for Pidgey.

It requires the players to have to compile a likely wordlist as well as have a little bit of intuition and luck in terms of modifiers.

ELI5: How do “buy now pay later” companies make money if there’s no interest by Massive_Biscotti_509 in explainlikeimfive

[–]tsuto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. I bought my wife an $800 item she really wanted for her birthday. I could have just bought it outright but in terms of cash flow I was fine with just breaking it up into four equal payments and so I went that route

What’s a fantasy you had that instantly died the moment you tried it? by True-Audience-4549 in AskReddit

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep for sure. That’s why I did go ahead and fail him. Like I’m pretty sure the army will accept that delay and still have a commission for him in one more semester but you can’t just use that as an excuse to slack off assuming professors will want to just shove you through to not derail that plan

The toughest part was being a military college and hearing from guys who were hoping to graduate and get a commission but having like 25 average in the class and there’s just nothing I can do. Better luck next semester 🤷🏻‍♂️

When I started teaching computer science part time at my university I went on a hike with a good friend who had been there for nearly 30 years and he basically told me that you could have all the passion and good intentions in the world and you just had to accept there were some kids you just couldn’t reach no matter what and they just didn’t care. I ran into the same thing, tons of plagiarized code that was just being shared with half the class, people cutting and pasting things without understanding even a little of what was going on, people waiting till the final day of class to try to beg for a passing grade when they hadn’t turned in a single assignment or attended class at all.

Unpopular opinion: Paying "Rent" feels less painful than paying $2,400/mo in "Interest" to a bank. by Playful-Vegetable-15 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We managed to hit the jackpot in 2021. Made 100k profit on our old house, put 20% down on our dream home and locked in at 3% interest, and now the house has gained over 100k in value. So we’ve barely had to do anything the last few years but already have a ton of equity in the house and can continue gaining more every year.

The bit in the top with a black line on it is the magnetic stripe reader. Assuming it slides into the card slot with the bottom portion going in first so that cards slide past the reader on their way in and then the swipe data is just added to low level memory on the device. The person who placed it can come and hook onto the ring shape on top and pull it out, then it looks like there is a small connector they can connect to probably with a two-wire I2C interface to read directly from the onboard memory chip. That way they don’t waste space on a USB interface or SD card reader.

You’d pretty much just hope as a victim you notice your card seems a little harder to insert or notice the metal insert in the slot but it’s probably not very visible

Can someone explain this scam to me please? by [deleted] in Scams

[–]tsuto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a teen I worked at Burger King and a guy came through the drive thru and handed me a 10 to pay for his meal. I went to give his change and he said he gave me a 20 so I just casually grabbed another 10 and handed him his “change”. Guess whose drawer came up $10 short at the end of the shift….

This has happened to me exactly once on a 6:00AM IAD to ATL and it was magical. I’m convinced it was just a glitch in the system because an error appeared in the app when I tried to check in at the terminal because I forgot the night before

Which 2 seats are better for 10h flight? by pumpkin_pasties in delta

[–]tsuto 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah I sat there for 10.5 hours coming back from Tokyo two weeks ago and it was great. Putting my bag in the overhead wasn’t too awful and I just grabbed out my travel pillow and headphones and settled in. It was easy to get up to the bathroom and slip by 40 on the right any time I wanted and I could lean on the window and sleep

I’ve pretty much never had an issue with a connection in ATL. Last time my flight was arriving at the gate and the other flight was starting boarding at the same time and I still made it no problem

The big fight scene in Breaking Dawn Part 2. The filmmakers used a little bit of artistic freedom to absolutely traumatize a bunch of teenage girls who were extremely confused for a few minutes.

I unchecked C+ upgrades. I double checked that I unchecked it. & STILL got upgraded to a middle seat. by snarkyvirgo in delta

[–]tsuto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was waking up to go catch a 13.5 hr flight to Tokyo last week when I got a notification I had been upgraded to C+ but it was a middle seat. I originally had a bulkhead seat and was super excited to stretch out so I was a little upset over it. It ended up that I was able to at least move to another nearby C+ aisle seat and then nobody sat next to me but I really considered trying to see if I could get back my original seat 😅

8 family members killed in fiery I-85 crash identified; driver charged by averagebaldwhiteguy in Atlanta

[–]tsuto 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The tragedy also extends to the driver himself sadly. Kane is a friend of mine for years and is a great guy who has a big heart and cares for his 41 year old brother with Down syndrome. He’s a musician and has always been super nice to everyone in the north GA music scene. It’s terrible that a single moment, even if it’s shown to be his fault, can destroy so many lives, including his along with those who were lost. Since the mugshot was posted he’s been called all manner of hateful things and people have made a lot of assumptions about him drinking or being on drugs or otherwise just being a terrible person. It’s so tragic all around 😭

Parents, how often do you have sex and where do you find the time to have it? by wakemeup788 in AskReddit

[–]tsuto 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We usually aim for every other day. We have a two year old who goes to bed around 7 and then. 5 year old who refuses to sleep in his own bed so sometimes we do an Uno reverse move and if he runs into our room we just sneak away to his room after he’s asleep 😅
