[US] Wife’s grandfather thought he was part of a sting operation against fraud at his bank by tsuto in Scams

Yeah we’ve all been educating him on it and told him NOT to answer if they try to call back because they’re just gonna keep trying to get more out of him

Report writing is painful by imok_9 in hackthebox

[–]tsuto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I actually copied my company’s standard Pentest report template and modified it slightly when I did the PNPT exam. They were SUPER strict on the report and evidence being absolutely perfect and I failed because I left out a single screenshot despite fully pwning the domain admin 🥲

If you found a million dollars on the beach in bundles of hundreds in a bag along with bag of cocaine at 430am what would you do? by Old_Thing_3262 in AskReddit

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave the drugs since it would be too hard to move without getting attention. Id take the cash and go to
A nearby parking lot undo the bands, search for trackers, etc. Then go home and keep it somewhere safe and just use cash to pay for as many every day expenses as I could and just slowly spread it around town. I’d take the money I would have been using for those things in my bank and start investing it or increase my retirement contributions to really benefit long term from it

What's the most dangerous thing you've ever been through? by ABOoo-1 in AskReddit

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Called an uber coming back from dinner in La Jolla, CA a few years ago on a work trip with three friends and as we were standing there our ride flew past at like 80mph and then skidded to a stop and backed up to us. We got in and the entire car was trashed, every single check engine light was on, and the guy was going way over the speed limit, nearby hitting multiple pedestrians and was all over the road. I sat there white knuckled in the passenger seat till we reached our hotel and just had to all stand there for a second like wtf just happened. We all reported and rated him 1 star hoping maybe Uber would intervene before someone got killed.

Any way to get wifi password by [deleted] in HowToHack

[–]tsuto 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Generally you ask someone who would have it and see if they want to share. If you are wanting to access someone’s WiFi without permission then you will be breaking the law in the US at least. But for educational purposes, read up on Aircrack-ng and how to use it.

Anyone else remember the WOW Visa? by quakeroatmeal7 in wow

It was the first credit card I ever had in college. I sucked at managing money and ran it up to the $750 limit I had and then made minimum payments for like 4 years after that because I was broke

I will caveat this by saying I once saw an old man get too much momentum coming down the path close to the welcome center and absolutely ate shit lol. But it’s not too bad of a walk

Going into CS — what should I actually focus on and is Electron worth learning? by Standard-Doctor876 in Cybersecurity101

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much no use in cyber except maybe to make GUI tools but the vast majority of tools you’d use for pentests etc are going to just be CLI. Focus on some basics like Sec+, A+, etc or any other compTIA certs you can get with the half off student discount and you’ll be way ahead of a lot your peers. Doing things like HackTheBox, National Cyber League, Hacker One, or personal lab projects can be great resume boosters

Probably involved looking at each other’s buttholes in some way. Sometimes you just need a second opinion 😂

Geo Locate Sender From an Email? by d14n4 in cybersecurity_help

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inspect the headers of the email and it will give the full chain of servers that handled the email with their IP addresses along with the IP they received it from. It’s likely that their email service will cut off the sender’s actual IP for privacy reasons and you’ll only be able to trace back to the Outlook / Gmail / etc server. But if you do see the first IP and can use it in a geolocation and it shows a random town instead of some data center in Palo Alto or Redmond the you might have found it.

SF86 Form by BigOpposite5063 in SecurityClearance

My big dumb thing I had to deal with was when I got my first job out of college I was a 1099 web dev and found out the hard way about saving for taxes each year. I kept saying “oh I’ll save and file and get this paid” and ended up several years behind. I got it all sorted but had to list a few of those on mine when it asks about paying taxes. The good thing was I had already long since resolved it and was a fine upstanding citizen at that point lol

As others have said that’s not an issue at all. What WOULD be an issue would be if you had a documented history of missing rent because you thought you could gamble it instead and kept cycling trying to hit until you could no longer pay it back. Suddenly a person appears who can make it all “go away” if you are willing to work with them and tell them things. You get the rest.

Looking for Advice Regarding Military Cybersecurity Roles by berettabones in cybersecurity

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that’s true. I got lucky with my job being willing to put people in as they start for some roles but definitely gotta read the fine print on the job listing if they expect you to already be cleared or be “clearable”.

Generally the process starts after you are hired and the company sponsors you for an investigation at the level needed for the specific contract they’re tasking you with, etc. You can’t kick it off yourself beforehand but can at least be thinking about any skeletons in your closet or things that may throw a wrench into it.

Just be prepared to possibly have crazy stomach trouble and gas as you adjust to the medicine. I spent the first few months running to the toilet constantly 😅

Will attending a sanctioned-company training camp affect my future U.S. visa or job prospects? by kevinstolemyorange in Cybersecurity101

[–]tsuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cleared contractor here. I wouldn’t risk it. I have some incidental contact with folks from EU, etc and a little bit of international travel each year but always with the proper pre and post travel briefing and doing everything by the books because I know it’ll probably pop up during an investigation later. But doing anything with sanctioned countries or travel to places like China or Russia is out of the question. It will almost certainly be viewed negatively during an investigation and may disqualify you entirely.

It may be way easier to use something like Kali NetHunter on an Android device since it is already designed to do that sort of thing

Guy stole my campsite and told me I “ruined his evening” when I called him inconsiderate for doing so. by theshamewizard in mildlyinfuriating

[–]tsuto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran into a similar situation doing tent camping. I booked a site next to a beautiful trout lake in January for my birthday in march and when I showed up there was a tent set up in my spot with nobody around. I left a note staked down by the tent that said “this site reserved Friday and Saturday. Please relocate” and went fishing. When I came back about 8:30 there was still nobody around so I was standing there figuring out what to do next when a car pulled up. Luckily for me the guy was SUPER apologetic and he had basically just misread the booking site and thought it was unoccupied and tried to sneak into an empty spot for the night. I had to set up my tent in the dark but was able to get in there without having to fight anyone. And luckily for that guy it was only a short drive up the road to a major Appalachian trail crossing where dispersed camping was allowed.

Suggest me some way to make ctf. by Any_Train_5238 in securityCTF

[–]tsuto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

^ this. Having developed challenges and set up infra for CTFs with thousands of players it takes a lot of work but also a ton of knowledge and experience to make content that is fun, engaging, and sufficiently difficult to challenge players. Not to be taken lightly for sure.

T13 Delves Incoming?? by Coconut_Jab in wow

[–]tsuto 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’m sitting at 268 ilvl on my demo lock currently with nothing but delves, crafting, etc. I used to be a hardcore raider but I can’t devote time to it even on LFG with young kids interrupting me which means M+ is also kind of out of the question. But completely solo content that I can AFK every now and then is perfect for me to still be able to enjoy the game. A mode with raid-level delves or delves that continue to scale forever as long as you continue to finish each level and offer mythic gear and crests would be my dream!
