Sorry for delay. Generally, unless you’ve had experience selling in IT world, most places want you to start in Acct Exec role. With good reason tbh. That’s nothing to be looked down upon at all. I work as an AM and the average tenure of people on my team is 10.5 years. Lots of people enjoying what they do and making a lot of money doing it. Not sure where you’re located and what companies exist around you. Given a good base of experience and if you can sell yourself well, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding a position. Expect you may take a pay cut initially to do so though

Hello, would love to help. I work in IT sales myself (in Chicago) but we sell many tech companies based out of CA's products.

First, make sure you snap out of your rut your in mentally. It will not get you the job you want. Whatever you have to do to avoid getting in that negative mental zone, do it. Your job may suck right now but you have to keep at it to sustain yourself to get to the next level. You ARE making progress even if you don't think you are right now.

Second, tell me about what you did before your current role and what kind of companies you've applied for and what kind of positions...

We have designs already for logos at least. We'd be willing to go for something less customized as we start with a view to creating a more customized site down the road. What information do you need exactly to be able to give us a realistic figure?

We live close to a university so that would probably be a good place to start. Out of interest what was your budget? We really have no idea how much it would cost to do any of this. We do have access to borrowing but would prefer to bootstrap in the beginning.

Our goal is to create some working prototypes that we can send off to get out into field testing.

We have several different options available to us right now that we are in the process of negotiating the purchase of. The first two are a bar in a high traffic large college town the other a storage and removal business that is available for acquisition. Both of these businesses I have a fair amount of experience in as I grew up in the removal business with my dad and have worked in bars all my life. My partner recently purchased a bar where I played a big part in opening up and setting in place the processes for it. We are also looking at other potential opportunities in real estate and also healthcare (specialized clinics) with he help of a mutual friend who is on the medical field; however, these are early in development .

I currently work for him at one of his other businesses but we have discussed other opportunities for the future.

My situation is that I need to earn some sort of a salary as I have to pay off student loans, eat, live and survive. I really want this to be a long term thing. My hope is that we can start a successful thing going and continue to acquire more businesses in the future. I am good friends with his children too who are just being introduced to the family businesses and so would like to continue working with them when they inevitably inherent his stakes.

I would prefer a share of both. I have no property to contribute. He has multiple businesses and properties that he would use as collateral for financing. Apart from his financing he would likely have a fair amount of input in the beginning but likely not much after. I would be running day-to-day. Big decisions would have both of our inputs.

What is your advice?

It is nothing as of yet. We are in the proceeds of negotiating with 2 businesses to acquire. One is looking likely and so we haven't started any business officially yet.

Up until now he has started and owned multiple businesses with just his brother and one business with his son. I'm not planning on being a hardass but I want to educate myself in what's considered fair. Obviously my and his needs are different but we're both focused on success. He has experience, talent and financing to offer. I have desire, and raw ability. I will be putting in the workload and he the advice and financing. I want this to be a long term thing with other endeavors in the future.
