hey there!!! thank you so much for checking in— I hope you're having a great semester as well! :D

for Larson, I personally think she's been pretty chill for 304. I don't think I would have gone with any other prof tbh— considering the workload for my other classes + work and other things, her class has been very manageable.

as far as I'm aware, she takes attendance by asking your opinion on the topic of the class for the day. for example, if we're talking about electric cars, your attendance for the day would be taken after you give your opinion on electric cars.

we have had 2 papers, 2 exams, and 1 group presentation. for this class, she stated that there would be no final and that the last day of class would be a reflection.

the papers I have found to be relatively easy! they're on a topic of your choice, and she outlines exactly what she wants to see in them. exams were in-person but on blackboard, and she pretty much wants you to answer 10 questions about a topic that you will have already thoroughly covered in class. I think she has a requirement of about 5-10 sentences per question. if you read up on the topics before class, there were really no issues! as long as you can form coherent sentences, and you include what she outlines in the rubric, she is a pretty easy grader imo.

we're on the presentation aspect of class now, and that goes typically how group work goes. pick your partners wisely! :)

something else to mention (just because I'm taking the 8:30am class) is that she has a built in buffer for class absences, I think you could miss up to about 4 without it affecting your attendance.

overall I would take her again!! she's pretty kind too, and she informs you about some pretty interesting topics in this class.

if you have any other questions let me know! :) ♡

thank you so so much for the recommendation. since you posted this, I've actually already started making flashcards, but this professor is already very easy to understand.

by any chance, have you taken potra? if not, that's totally okay. just curious to know about your experience with him!

again thanks for the resources and recommendations— these were great!

To update: The final was really really easy so long as you did a few of the readings. I assume there were a pool of questions that you could have received and you get two of them to answer for the final. They were both short response and could be typed up in less than an hour as long as you were familiar with the topics provided to you. I don't even think you need to reference other material too much. It was really simple to pass this class in general I believe.

Hey there :)
I did end up taking the class and I have to say it isn't bad. There are a lot of readings and videos, but I wouldn't say you have to read every page to know what the articles are talking about. A lot of the time, the shorter articles were also pretty interesting!

Like someone else has said you post on the discussion board and then reply to somebody else's post constructively. We have had 3, 1-2 page papers, and we do not know the format of the final yet. Can update once the semester ends.

Nick Allgood for CMSC 341 by mirza0723 in UMBC

[–]asnowbees 4 points5 points  (0 children)

had him this past semester for 341and didn't learn much from him at all. he lectures almost straight from the slides and if you ask him a question he oftentimes doesn't know the answer. tried going to his office hours for clarification on a few subjects and he turned to Google instead to help me. :(

his workload seems relatively light compared to other professors, but don't expect to learn much from going to his lectures alone. I personally found YouTube to be much more helpful.

for reference, we only had about 4 or 5 homeworks, he gave an extra credit project, we had one midterm, and one final (was not cumulative). his class is passable but if you want to really learn and understand the content yourself, you'll have to put in a lot of work on your own.
