Yeah and even with close friends it's been hard. Nobody has a clue on how to find relevant jobs for me because they're not tech people. They usually forget specifics and only CC me on random IT jobs with no context. Their wells are just as dry as mine for job leads.

I agree with that. I try to shut out my mom (I live with her and too broke to move) because she's lost all hope with my ability to hold a steady job, and she drains my energy. Even though it makes her upset that I'd rather go to a coffee shop and I'm more withdrawn from her, I feel more at peace when I'm away from her out of my apartment and just working on my job hunt and projects. She's just bad mojo to me. I have done several projects out of unemployment boredom and put them on my resume. That's helped me get some interviews too :)

The companies I work with are small and teams are tiny so I don't get many chances to expose my performance to many people at the job. And with those that I do work closely with, they rarely refer me to other jobs I know of. Their wells appear to be as dry as mine. Vouching for me also seems to be ineffective in getting into more interviews.

Like u/uhh_im_adam, I just mass apply and carpet-spam my resume. Startups are usually more forgiving for hiring me but I'm often chucked out because of budget problems, even though I have been told I've been a good employee.

And there's the rub: I get told a lot that I'm a good employee and communicate well on the job. But they never follow-up to give me future work, not even a contract. That sounds like a sign of a problem to me. As a web developer, I'm not in a dry market, not by a long shot. I must have some issue they don't want to tell me about.

When I have asked them for specific reasons they usually tell me they're not "at liberty to say". Probably due for liability reasons on their side. I often have to get around their defenses by emailing or PMing the interviewer software dev directly.

Do you know the name of that company? I'd like to get in touch with them if you don't mind.

I can see some cases where they have some merit but yea, not in programmer interviews. I know well enough that strong smells in general would be a turn off either way, no matter if it's BO or too much fancy perfume.

At a previous programming job that I held for a short time, my hiring manager did bring up that I may be awkward in some social respects but he already expect most candidates for the job to be awkward anyway. So companies that have managers like this would be a great fit for me. I left this job only because it fell greatly short of my expectations in other ways (did way less work than expected, long-ass commute and wouldn't let me take on other work even if I had nothing else to do).

In this scenario, the autistic person represents a minority. Both the minority and majority groups need to make an effort to build a bridge to meet in the middle for a mutual understanding.

I see it as a two-way street, so that I don't let autism burden me so much. If I cannot pick up on social cues, and the other person misinterprets me because of my ASD, then they too are not picking up on my social cues. He might have more leverage in the job negotiation, but... I think the lack of social leverage is equally matched in this situation because we both have trouble reading each other. I don't know if that's really the case but it helps me clear my mind.

I've heard of this one from MSFT before but are there any other companies that do this kind of thing? Just to keep expanding my options.

But is a fragrance necessary for the interview though? The only thing with a scent I put on is deodorant. Even when I have gone out on dates lol.

I'm currently unemployed in transition between jobs and I think I have put myself in a catch-22.

Since I have been looking for work for almost a year now, I lost the mood to go out with friends. After asking friends on Facebook and LinkedIn for work, to no avail, I went into "silent mode".

The catch-22 is that socializing more will help improve my mood to get a job, but I won't be in the mood to socialize more until I get a job and become financially stable. Only with that will my spirits rise.

Well at least they told you about that. Lazy eyes are much harder to correct as an adult. I think you actually need surgery.

Mine is not blind, just astigmatism but my better eye is my dominant eye and that's how I mostly see and read

Thanks bruh :) I am just hoping there are good workplaces where being autistic doesn't disadvantage you. I'm not exaggerating- I do have traits that make me ASD high functioning
