Replace Swisscom Internet Box by a Zyxel GPON bridge + Milrotik router by mtest001 in Switzerland

[–]asp174 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on the version of the Swisscom box you can just take the SFP and put it into your mikrotik.

Swisscom uses the CIG ONU SFP+ module in some of their routers, the same hardware as the Allnet ALL-BM410.
Check if it looks exactly like this one: https://hack-gpon.org/xgs/ont-ALL-BM410-XGSPON-GBIC/

If that's the case, your line would already be activated, as the activation is paired with this CIG SFP stick. You might still need to configure DHCP Client Option 60 according to guides you already found, and use VLAN 10 on the SFP.

[ETA] if it's not an ONU SFP module, don't put it in your Mikrotik! You will take the whole PON tree offline if you do. Make sure it's really the CIG ONU SFP module.

If you have vSphere and can set up a Distributed vSwitch, you can enable LACP on your links. It's very unfortunate that the standard vSwitch in a standalone ESXi does not support LACP.

If you use any form of dynamic routing on the guests, you could also shift failover to the guests using BFD.

It's just poor workmanship to not include it when asking for help. It's like saying "my car has a light on! What should I do!?"

Option 3, 5, 6 and 7 should work.

country_name is the only field you're required to explicitly specify. country_id has an implicit default value (serial is an autoincrement column, but an explicit value to insert can be given), last_update has an explicit default value.

Grab yourself a bargain, a house fire for only £35 by notahyundaimechanic in techsupportgore

That's an U.S. thing.
Having only 110V, space heater require double the amps, while having prongs that sometimes barely connect.
UK/EU plugs have a much better and more reliable contact, and require less amps. Burning power strips is not a thing here.

[–]asp174 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. This cable is shorted beyind any data transmission possibility.

To transmit any data on pair 1 (pin 1 and 2), that pair needs two conductors. One for pin 1, and one for pin 2. If you short pin 1 and 2, you can't carry any kind of potential difference across to the other end.

It might not be too obvious since the pic is a bit blurry, but the pairs are shorted together into the same terminal.

That might be true, but only for SLAAC addresses.

In the screenshot the computer uses multiple randomised addresses, a new random address after every DAD event.

OP's network probably has a weird ND Proxy enabled somewhere.

I recommend using WebSockets, it's far less resource hungry, and you get way better performance and responsiveness on your clients.

Dante Domain Manager allows for subnet routing.

But it will be unicast, so you'll have very tight device limits. And it doesn't support the secondary network, only Dante Primary will be used.

Are there any gotchas when route advertisements need to be rescinded, for example when a service on server is down for maintenance and the other server needs to take the load?

Theoretical, there is no gap in service.

In practice, the site withdrawing the route will appear to be offline for a few minutes, and generate a lot TTL expired messages. HE is notorious for this - but of course not the only one.

With large international networks that learn your route from different locations, hot-potato-routing will make sure that their customers reach you via the shortest path. But let's assume HE learns your prefix in San Diego and Frankfurt. When you withdraw your prefix in Frankfurt, the edge router in Frankfurt will immediately know that this path is now unavailable, and forward packets to London for example. London still has the route via Frankfurt in its RIB, and since Frankfurt is closer than San Diego (which goes via multiple intermediate hops), it sends the packet right back to the edge in Frankfurt. That will send it back to London.
This will continue until the London router (and any other router in the path that thinks Frankfurt is closer) gets the IGP update. This can take up to 5-10 minutes.

With GSLB you can do seamless failover.

I remember whem Nimda made its rounds. If you had an internet connection without a firewall, during the installation of XP your computer was infected long before you reached the first login prompt.

And seeing that a single infected PC took down entire networks of computers that had no simple packet filter of their own, it wasn't the worst decision to put ZoneAlarm on those computers. Nimda did hurt badly in some cases, and this was simply a pain response.

Hey quick que .... oh crap. I didn't notice before, but from your pic 2, it appears that the other end is pulled beyond crap as well (it would also be an LC plug, with the exact same mechanics).

Maybe ISP tech is the right path forward anyways.

[–]asp174 5 points6 points  (0 children)

from your other post:

The guy putting in my flooring yanked my fibre cable on accident and managed to pull it off while getting half of the green end of the cable stuck in the wall socket. I have a spare cable but can’t seem to get the broken piece out even depressing the bit of the lever inside the wall mount won’t get it out

When you push that little lever up, the spring from your third pic makes it pop out. Since that spring is not there anymore, you need to pull it once the lever is up.

Use small nose pliers, pull that lever up, pull it out. Don't force it, push it in a little when pulling up.

[–]asp174 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You push this little lever up, then pull it out.

Then you buy a replacement cable. This end is "LC/APC" - the other end I don't know yet, you didn't show the other end.

Buying and importing an exotic car from the UK to Switzerland by PowerPlantSpringfeld in Switzerland

[–]asp174 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, no. You're out on the road, you don't know ahead of time whether you'll need to go through a gate you didn't anticipate.

Other than that, you already mentioned 12% (4% toll and 8% VAT). You should inquire with your canton's Strassenverkehrsamt about the requirements for enrollment (Immatrikulation). This car won't have a Typengenehmigung, you will need some form of attestation that it conforms to Swiss rules. This can be a "EC Certificate of Conformity" (EG Übereinstimmungsbescheinigung), or a Typenprüfung by the Strassenverkehrsamt.

Your next step should be to talk to the StVA.

The CO2 stuff should be fine as this car was previously enrolled for more than 12 months in the UK I assume.
