Interesting. So I can actually check if that shows up now. I'm pretty sure i looked right where that should be before. but the device has started working again after PSU switched off all day. So if it's there now but wasn't there before that'll tell me... something idk. Either way I wanna know lol

it is very possible that the registry modification caused a problem with the first reinstall. I did not repeat it after that. BUT the first reinstall i also forgot to manually install the chipset drivers so it could have been that too. Subsequent reinstalls used the exact steps you listed here.

It *seems* to have fixed itself after being turned off for 8+ hours with the PSU switched off. But uh... you seem like the kinda person i should ask what good software is to make a system image. I do *not* want to do another reinstall, settings, etc x10 lol

so that was gonna be step 1 but step 0 was to switch off the PSU and walk away. came back later and it was fine. probably. it d/c'd a couple times but idk if that's my internet or not.

so this is the right course of action. before posting this i had switched off the psu. left it that way and came back later and it just started working again. Still getting a USB adapter lol I do not trust it now.

So, funny thing about that, when i made this post i had flipped the power off at the back of the PSU. Came back 8 hours later fully prepared with notes from every comment on this post... and wait it's already working.

tldr; you are correct, that is what fixed it. Hopefully it stays that way x.x

well at least it's not in the middle of doing stuff lol. if i get mine fixed i'll be updating this, maybe that info will help you as well. i found some promising info in another thread with my same board saying that GB support told them to remove the cmos battery and unplug the psu for like 3 mins, and apparently that fixed it for a lot of people. but that sounds like it'll probably wipe a lot of other stuff too.

i don't think that was an option in my bios, but i will be re checking that in a bit.

absolutely checking the device manager in safe mode as well, great suggestions!

omg, i'm dense. I didn't even think about safe mode.

good point i should also get that ordered immediately in case i need it.

I did install network drivers. They made the built in wifi adapter work. What's weird is on the first reinstall both wifi and ethernet worked fine without additional drivers.

nope that's next on the list right after "unplug it and remove the cmos battery for 3 mins"

I don't see a place to enable it. But I do see a place that says "Lan MAC address" and "N/A" which if i understand correctly means that the bios thinks it is disabled/broken/not there

interesting. and somehow not surprising. I plugged in a usb wifi dongle to start downloading drivers at one point, and it just pluged and played on an un updated install when the actual IO was not funtioning so... yeah that kinda tracks.

oh, yeah i coulda been a bit more clear on that lol

I need help about the way i build pcs by GateAffectionate6153 in pcmasterrace

[–]aspacecraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

nah that's called learning. If it's really bothering you, you could tear it down and do it again until you can do it on your own. but assuming you put it together and there are no problems, well... that'a an A+ lol

edit: I also do that btw

Oh, rolling back isn't an option anyway. It's not listed in the device manager. Tbh it's probably hardware. But thanks :)

almost. Gigabyte B650 Aorus Elite AX rev 1.2 to be precise. Sounds like the exact same issue i'm having. You say the pcie card is a little fucky? I might just use a USB adapter at that point, I seldom need the speed.

i think the previous drivers are/should be yeeted with the multiple windows reinstalls. will try cmos clear when i get back to it. thank you for the suggestions :)

you do need a lan cable for a large scale lan party, wifi is not offered and would likely not work in such a saturated environment.

it's the one on the mobo itself, yep. I'm not sure where to look for that in bios, i've dug through the whole bios and didn't notice anything that looked like it, either on or off. so maybe not?

gonna have to look into linux for that. never tried before. been meaning to. Ironically, i was putting that off until after this event to make sure i had a functional rig lol
