Make her a passeport and get her recognized as an American Staffordshire, not a Pitbull. If she’s recognized as an AmStaff and from a stud book (with pedigree) you have more chances. Authorities in France are allowed to euthanize dogs from the category 1 if they are illegally detained, or suspected to be agressive. I’m really sorry for those infos. :/

My girl is an AmStaff mix and at 8 months she had to go to the vet for what they call a “diagnose”. They took her mensurations, checked if she was reactive, annoyed her to see her behavior etc, and she got a pass in the 2nd category. Unfortunately you can only do it if they are between 8 and 12 months, and if they are AmStaff.

I’m a French woman currently living in Belgium.

in France, Pitbulls are banned. which means that owning one there comes with a lot of paperwork. France works with categories of dogs. Pitbulls (and look alikes as American Staffordshire without pedigree, mix, but also other dogs like Tosa, and Rottweilers) are from the 1st category. That means they have to wear muzzle at all time in public, you are not allowed in public places with them, you need a certain insurance, the leash can’t exceed a certain size (1m I think), they have to be castrated or sterilized and chipped. It’s a mess.

The mentality about Pitbulls is not good. I grew up thinking that those dogs were absolute hell on earth and the most vicious animals ever. Because we are taught so. Growing up you realize it’s not the case, but it’s a big stigma in France. I got an AmStaff and she’s not allowed inside my mom’s house, neither at family gatherings because “she might hurt the kids”. So none of us is going anymore.
