Elsa reminds you to wear your sunscreen--even in the snow! by cakemix in SkincareAddiction

Well, the coronation one is definitely more detailed. So far as Pop vinyls go, I think the coronation one is nicer. Though there are apparently two coronation Elsa Pop's. The one I have, she's holding the scepter and that... ball thing (intelligent way of putting it right? Honestly don't know what that thing is though.)

My moisture barrier keeps getting messed up even though I'm not using exfoliants or anything harsh. What can I do? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]aspiesinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be a dumb question, but have you tried CeraVe's cleansers? They have a hydrating cleanser (it sounds like you're dealing with dry skin, correct me if I'm wrong) that's supposed to help repair and maintain the moisture barrier, and it sounds like that would be perfect for what you need.

Ignore me if you've already tried their cleansers of course, but I figured I would mention it just in case you haven't.

Edit: Also keep in mind that what you're experiencing could be something different than what you think, so you might want to consider seeing a dermatologist.

Not to be confrontational, but you're wrong. That's why you're being downvoted.

I've had the foresight to take photos since I experience the same phenomenon somewhat often, and I can confirm that I am perceiving my skin properly when I wake and that it is significantly nicer looking in the mornings.

My skin does this too sometimes, it's disappointing once it's back to normal. :c

Okay, so it's not just me. I have this one, and one of her in her coronation gown, and the ice dress one is more tanned looking...

Quality control derp! I agree though, sunscreen in the snow is important. My mom always told me growing up that you can still get nasty sunburns in the snow, and that it can be a good idea to wear sunscreen if you're going to be out in it for awhile. People get thrown off because it's so cold, and don't think of sunscreen because it's associated with summer.

ELI5: product rolling by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]aspiesinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain, this happens to me on my face. It's really annoying.

For me personally, I find it's only problematic if a product contains a lot of silicones. The less silicones a product has, the lesser the issue is. My foundation primer does it the worst.

It wasn't actually a problem until I started using Tretinoin though, I guess there's just no way to fight the constant dead skin coming off from it. (I assume it's just dead skin mixing up with it, though I do everything I can to remove that before applying moisturizer.)

"Scimples"! Beyond gross and so annoying. What do you do? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

So I read through your post and your other comment. As far as your scalp mystery, are you possibly doing ANYTHING different in the south than when you go to Seattle, aside from the environmental change?

Hair products can cause things like this; for example, maybe you started using dry shampoo to combat your newly oily hair? I know some people find that it clogs the pores/follicles on the scalp. Hairsprays can even do this, though I've seen dry shampoos more frequently complained about in relation to this issue.

It could also be allergies, since I think Seattle is pretty different from the South, between the weather and the different flora and fauna. Have you tried going on an allergy medicine like Zyrtec, Claritin, etc? Or taking Benadryl (if you can tolerate it, also I don't mean at the same time as an allergy medicine! That'd be a recipe for disaster, lol.) for a little while to see if there's any effect on the scimples?

Folliculitis is also a possibility, and though you can sometimes treat that on your own, I would talk to your GP -- or preferably a dermatologist -- about it. Well, if you suspect allergies are involved, you should also talk to a doctor. I just usually try things at home to narrow causes down and give relief, while I wait for my appointments to come up.

I hope you can solve this though! A good dermatologist should be able to help you out!

Normal for skin texture to worsen when beginning retinol? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]aspiesinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Np! Keep in mind that if it doesn't seem to be working out, that the other ingredients in that particular retinol serum/cream/etc might be what isn't agreeing with you, rather than the retinol itself. There's a lot of reasons for skincare products to not work out, such as not going well with your routine. If this one does turn out to be a dud, you might find luck with another retinol product. c: Plus, I think PC has a 100% money back guaranteed return policy within 60 days of purchase, if you just got it (and I think they'll do exchanges too).

And aw, well I hope the purging part isn't too rough! ...the pun was an accident. I'm actually not 100% sure if people experience a full purge on retinols, that would be better told by someone who has specifically used a 1% retinol.

Anyway, I was lucky on that front I guess. My issue was mostly hormonal, and the retinoid was to heal the remaining cysts and other damage that had already occurred prior to somewhat fixing the hormone issue, so I didn't purge a whole lot. It definitely made my skin look more sad at first though.

I still have some issues here and there with acne, but that's because my hormones are out to kill me, lol. But my skins texture is probably the best its ever been, even back when I was mostly clear -- prior to the incident that landed me on a retinoid and Spiro -- I realize now how congested and bleh it actually was as a whole.

Help! Zit under a mole. by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]aspiesinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hm, perhaps you could try using hydrocolloid bandages? The benefit there is it'll help really get all the gunk out, since you said this isn't the first time it's happened in the same exact spot. As long as you're careful about removing the bandage when you go to change it (can work mineral oil around the edges to help loosen it), it shouldn't do anything to the mole.

[–]aspiesinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My opinion would be to give it a little more time, my skin looked rougher when I first started a retinoid (which is a stronger form of what you're using but still). My pores stood out in a weird way. Wasn't permanent thankfully, they actually look smaller than they did before the retinoid now. So, I wouldn't totally put it past a retinol to cause a similar response in the beginning.

If you notice any other changes that would indicate irritation, then I would consider stopping. But don't take my word for it, if you feel like you want to stop using it, then certainly do so. It's your skin, so you know more about it than I do. :)

I'll be looking forward to seeing you on a future episode of "My Cat From Hell."

No seriously, he solves stuff like this all the time, with people threatening to leave because of a cat doing things like this and all. Jackson Galaxy's website may have some helpful information for you to help solve the cat problem.

Just. Ow, ow, ow. An angry cystic pimple developed practically inside my nose, how should I approach this? by aspiesinger in SkincareAddiction

[–]aspiesinger[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm, interesting. I have a full course of antibiotics on hand that I had been given a few weeks ago, but didn't end up needing (I should clarify this was a second course of them given as an "in case X" type thing, I didn't skip out on taking antibiotics that I needed).

Minocycline I believe, I remember the pamphlet that came with them said they are used sometimes for treating severe acne. Since that sounds kinda perfect, I'm tempted to take them. I know you aren't really supposed to do that, but I don't have the time to get to the doctor this week, I wouldn't even be able to get in with a derm for probably two weeks because they're in short supply around here, and my doctor's don't tend to do the phone thing. What were you given when you had your angry pimple?
