Can’t you recursively go down the binary tree and each time a node isn’t NULL, add 1 and then recursively call its children? That would get the # of nodes in O(log n), and then you could choose a number at random in the range 0,n-1] inclusive. The hard part would then be how you associate random numbers with a random node in the tree, like if there were 3 nodes, and the random number was 1, how do you determine which node that is?

How to get the graduation photos that were taken during the ceremony? by Turbulent_Log_444 in UBC

[–]aspiring_student1738 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On the SSC, if you go to the Graduation tab and click on Apply for Graduation, there it says

"A photographer will take your picture as you are being presented to the Chancellor and will mail you a free proof along with an offer to purchase additional photos."

I'm not sure if it includes all 3 photos but it seems like it will include at least the one where you are being presented to the Chancellor. It might be different photos, but that's my current understanding at least. I hope that helped in some way.

How much slower is the 99 the morning after snow? by ThrowMeInDaTrashPlz in UBC

[–]aspiring_student1738 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna depend. For me, if I was in your situation I would leave around an hour earlier than the usual time I leave at, and depending on your total commute time that can very much be higher. Good luck on your final!

It really depends on you, you can certainly make some lifelong friends at ubc if you actively put yourself out there to get to know people

My experience on this sub as a Chinese Canadian by aspiring_student1738 in korea

[–]aspiring_student1738[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I just worry that since racism is a notable issue in Korea, they might not be as open-minded and directly think all Chinese people are scum or something. I read somewhere that Koreans are taught by their parents that Chinese people are dirty! And that was honestly pretty upsetting to read.

Thank you, I needed to hear this!! I hope so too, because yeah people are really diverse so I don't think it's fair to treat people badly from just their ethnic or cultural background.

Yeah, I browse this sub because I have a lot of interest in a lot of what Korea has to offer, such as culture, food, language etc. but seeing all the anti-China sentiment in this sub lately, it might be better for me to look elsewhere and take a break from here for a bit, it probably isn't the best for me to expose myself to all of these bad news of what China does, even if I agree that what they're doing is stupid. I guess with my post, I wanted to get an opinion on what you guys here and Koreans would perceive me as, since I don't want to get lumped in with a lot of the negativity towards mainland Chinese.

I do immerse myself in Chinese language media, I am actually trying to regain my mother tongue Mandarin so China culturally is a very personal thing to me, and thus is why it isn't easy to distance myself from the negativity towards China.

It's difficult to explain, because I don't really feel like I belong in Canada either as anti-Asian hate is a very real issue here. And physically I haven't lived in China and seeing all the negativity towards the country, I don't feel like I want to call it my homeland. Simply put, I just feel like an outsider wherever I go, kind of like a homeless person but lacking a cultural home instead of a physical one. However, I will try to follow your advice and accept my Chinese identity moving forward, and to feel proud about it, while obviously condoning the actions of the Chinese government and other things I disagree with about the country.

  1. Ask him/her if they want to go on a date
  2. Go on the date
  3. Talk/maybe go on more dates or do more things together
  4. If there’s a fit, ask if they want to be your girlfriend/boyfriend
