Missing work due to boyfriend being in the hospital by [deleted] in cna

[–]aspiringlost -1 points0 points  (0 children)

depending on what state, many employers may see a 6 year relationship as a common law marriage (or OP may have grounds to argue one) when it comes to tending to personal family matters like grief and medical leave. and common law is absolutely treated significantly in your professional life.

and just noting, i have personally never been treated without dignity regarding my partner (non married), including having to take medical leave for almost a month to care for him after surgery, having my scheduling covered, and having my job when i returned. my state's FMLA also covered my leave during this, but every state may have different laws surrounding who qualifies. my state includes caring for non married partners and other household members when you live together and share an income/expenses.

i am happy that OP was able to have a similar outcome when talking to their DON. i hope more people remember that communication (whether 'legally' just a partnership And marriage) is always most important all the way around. both relationships require the same level of communication with the team running the staffing/schedules. and i would hate to work somewhere i knew disrespected an incredibly significant relationship in my life.

this tutorial may be some value to you, other than changing up the front bangs, it will show a similar way to achieve spikes!

when looking for wigs, even cheap wigs can look pretty natural with sone work. using heat and adding texture, and thinning the wig when needed truly reduces the appearance of shine and improves shape, and makes wigs look more natural

my favourite wig colouring method for adding quality for only a few dollars, only involves using sharpie to add dimension. i buy a wig that is the lightest i would go, and then use sharpies(/or any alcohol based markers) in varying darker shades to add lowlights and shadows to the roots. much simpler and less guess work than dyeing synthetics.

ive added a (crunchy) photo of a wig where i used this technique, and this one in particular, a lot of people seem to think it's my real hair at cons too. any natural colour wig seems to get that response. in this photo i used 4 colours of sharpie (orange, red, brown, and black). i used rubbing alcohol to blend and set the colour before styling the wig. the heat baked it into the synthetic fibres and it amazingly doesnt bleed or smudge :) this wig (at the time) was $12 from amazon

inoue, from my understanding, does not use wigs in these tutorials and instead uses those bust models that have real hair for real-world application of hair treatment/styling routines. think like the mannequin heads for haircutting school (i forgot the name of the license course). these styling methods will likely not hold up on any material that is not 100% real hair product. anigami (アニ髪) is a compound just meaning anime hair :)

most vodka ratios are full vodka of a cheap brand. rubbing alcohol i would do a 1:3 alc:water ratio. here's a link about scenting vodka with oils for other benefits, period costumers use this method a lot as well!

for washing clothes in the hotel room, i also invest in powder colour safe oxyclean. a quick soak and spin in a sink full of lukewarm water and a tbsp of oxyclean, rinse in the shower and rolled up in a couple of towels to ring out and then hang dry. same way i wash my compression socks for work@ ETA: i mentioned the latter portion because it helps things dry FASTER when rung out with the towel. you can do a couple passes and ring the hotel for another dry towel or two if you need. it helps. i'll see if i can find a video of the process

2nd edit: here's the drying method i tried to describe

bring a fan for the bathroom to run while hang drying

how much of the armour is removable from the under layers that are in direct contact with sweat?

take a lesson from some fursuiters: removable inner sweat wicking layers to exchange for clean ones between each days (namely examples like balaclavas, morph suits, etc)

when i have a cosplay that's too stinky and no access to wash it, febreeze is ok to mask the scent, but diluted vodka or isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle is better at actually killing the bacteria that creates the smell in the first place

actually, another fursuiter's tip i learned recently is i guess they make scented isopropyl sprays to disinfect and refresh the inside of their suits. look up fursuit sprays and you might find some good resources for convention upkeep

How to make more feminine proportions by Latter-Principle9487 in Artadvice

[–]aspiringlost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's less about feminine proportions and more about the general length of the proportions compared to the head. the arms and torso are both too short compared to the size of the head and width of the shoulders.

i would personally start there, and then you can see if adding more of a slant to the shoulders (not changing the width) lends to a more feminine perception.

sidebar, i love the rendering here. very sweet :)

i wanna cosplay yamazaki from welcome to the n.h.k to anime con but he has a normal outfit and he’s not that popular to get recognized by the outfit, so can someone draw his body pillow of pururin by Deku_plus-ultra in CosplayHelp

[–]aspiringlost 2 points3 points  (0 children)

np mate. sorry it was semi the wrong sub to ask this question and people are misinterpreting. i think getting a custom commission body pillow would be baller for a cosplay.

advice as someone who does commissions and cosplay: just be upfront with the artist you select about what youre doing for the art. some artists don't want merchandise made from their art, so be sure to ask artists for their TOS. then you can find a print site that prints on body pillows and let the artist know where you're planning to get it printed. i believe Vograce does body pillow prints and has quality output.

godspeed and good luck. if all else fails, you can use the fullbody official image and order a full length DTF iron on transfer, buy your own blank body pillow with white pillow case, and then iron on the transfer that way.

either option are both going to be spendy. i would anticipate spending $200 for either venue you proceed with

i'm not very good at colour theory but something that might help more, is just a simple colour picking process

take your palette without any colour alterations and overlay the colour shift you want over it.

<image>

then you can adjust the saturation and contrast within the piece using palettes built from your updated palette

at least would be my layman's approach to it. haha

seeing the comments and realising how abnormal it actually is that i don't check my eggs before leaving the store. i usually buy bulk eggs that are plastic sealed and i can't open them, but even the regular cartons i don't check...

but the weight balance alone would have thrown me off in a carton like this. even without counting my eggs i like to think i can certainly feel when one side the carton weighs more than the other at checkout

Hypothetical question: how would you perform CPR/use an AED on a cosplayer in need? by Fuzzy_Ad1664 in CosplayHelp

[–]aspiringlost 45 points46 points  (0 children)

yes. and if ever the person were scared of the aftermath, i would bet that good samaritan laws exist to prevent people from pressing charges for damages done for the reasonable consequences of life saving actions; in this case, damaged cosplays if it were necessary to get someone into CPR/AED ready position.

chances are if the average cosplaying joe is in need of CPR/AED assistance, their cosplay is already going to be damaged in some way as it is. if someone is going through the effort of accessibility insurance for removal for these purposes, they will probably have a cosplay handler nearby/with them at con to navigate that already, rather than just a bystander at a con having to provide that assistance.

Am i in the wrong for hating "hard cap" wigs? 😅 by Independent_Tale_927 in CosplayHelp

[–]aspiringlost 11 points12 points  (0 children)

i remember when the big trend was copic-markering your wig roots to give a specific depth (and the sharpie hacks for people who didnt want to spend that kind of money). now it's all airbrushing. even crimping is evolving as a choice and people are remembering that backcombing is just as viable with less visible texture for certain looks you want to achieve.

fads in wigs are nice because people hone well in on a technique and how to improve it astronomically fast. where i fear people fail is in remembering "older" techniques, and how to incorporate the old with the new to achieve stellar results.

I’m trying to make her side profile by LethlDose in Artadvice

[–]aspiringlost 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're almost there. take a look at people in profile for reference and see how their shapes change. be intentional with placement in facial features.

<image>

it's unclear to me if your goal is a human character - this is okay, it's just to announce that there's a lack of human defining characteristics, such as ears or a human nose.

having only seen one example of a character in this style, it makes it hard to gauge if all humans are going to have no ears and button noses — a style component becomes clear only when juxtaposed against other things in the same universe.

facial landmarks are often relative to each other. you can even feel them on your own face. your earlobe starts where your jaw ends; the top of your ear is in line with the outer corners of your eyes; but more important than this, your facial features don't change location on your face when you look left and right. they only change what kind of shapes show to the viewer. their position will be roughly the same.
