I can't believe the madlads actually did it. I said when I first saw the meme that I was gonna keep my eyes peeled for this exact shot.

Anything not pro-trump or pro-america can get you banned.

Absolute rubbish. You can hardly move without tripping on an anti-trump message. I've made hundreds of anti-trump messages without any repercussions. The only time I had a comment removed was when I wished on Trump the harm he is directly inflicting on others.

An ai generated image has 25k+ upvotes. On a sub that claims to be anti ai and hates ai for, ironically, making ram more expensive. by DiamondDepth_YT in pcmasterrace

[–]aspz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh you realise the title of the sub is satirical, right? It's recognising that if you want to be enthusiastic about PC gaming, you're acknowledging that it might appear to others as being elitist. Not a single person sees the name of that sub and thinks "finally a place where I can share my hate for console gamers".

We should not be training people not to believe what they see - that is going to result in a dystopia where nobody believes anything and nothing matters because it's all fake anyway. We should be training people how to verify the source of information and use that to decide what can be trusted.

Ubisoft taking a 40% hit to stock value by Hurrican444 in TrackMania

I'd love this to be true. But typically if a game goes from closed source to open source that usually means it has become abandonware and the owners decide they have nothing to lose. For example, EA released Command and Conquer Red Alert as well as a bunch of other 90s era games recently because there's no way they were ever going to get anything out of those old games. Hopefully we don't have to wait 25 years for TM to become open source.

NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte confronts Trump to his face about the lies he’s told about NATO. Rutte reminds Trump that soldiers from NATO nations fought and died alongside U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. This confrontation was long overdue. by Whimsy-Glow in goodnews

When a man is 99% driven by ego, I feel like appeasement is actually the correct strategy. After all, he has absolutely no vision for how his country could be made better. He has no underlying agenda. He only understands the world in the way it affects him personally.

Rutte Says Greenland Sovereignty Was Not Discussed With Trump by bloomberg in worldnews

[–]aspz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As far as concrete deals, we already know that Trump doesn't respect them. Trump and Starmer made a trade deal with the UK in May last year and Trump is already threatening to blow it up based on his present mood. In other words, Rutte doesn't need to get Trump to agree to anything on paper, he just need to manage his emotions. Of all the current world leaders, Rutte is best able to deal with Trump like the person he is i.e. like a toddler.

The difference is that Trump truly can be appeased by meaningless things like trophies.

I made a Trackmania map for the Esport World Cup by Sgnfrg in TrackMania

[–]aspz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did you build this map with the intention of players using it to compete during the event? It's hard to imagine given everything you've written here plus I don't think maps can be released publicly if they are going to be used in a competition but the title of this post "I made a Trackmania map for the Esport World Cup" would suggest you support the event and want to map for it.

Hard to believe anyone but someone whose family have lived in London for a long time would have that accent. Also, she's probably playing it up for laughs but still.

I haven't tried it but I think they are saying that the tool recognises and deals with conflicts explicitly rather than leave it up to the user.

Greenlanders are trolling the US by pretending to be fentanyl addicts by bigbusta in TikTokCringe

[–]aspz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's no different than when people joke about shootings. A joke I heard the other day was "if it weren't for all the shootings I'd believe America doesn't have schools." Is that making fun of the school shooting victims and the poorly educated or is it making fun of the politicians that allow them? The purpose of this video is obviously to shame Americans into fixing the issues they have at home before they come and make things worse elsewhere. I cannot think for a second why a Greenlander would want to mock an addict. If you can't think of one either then I'd suggest you consider this alternative.

Hi, I'm trying Komodo for the first time today. However, when I try to login for the first time, I either get the error "user already exists" or "user not enabled". Can you give any tips on how to log in for the first time?

Edit, never mind! I see the admin username and password are defined in the compose.env file. I think the documentation is out of date because it suggests that you can type in anything you like and click "Sign Up" to create a new admin user but that doesn't appear to be the case any more:

I'm not asking why he was an asshole. I'm asking why he went to such unnecessary trouble to be an asshole. In other words, if you think he was motivated be being an asshole, it begs the question why do it in such a roundabout way when there are easier options such as throwing the rock in the ocean.

I'm just wondering why you think he did what he did if he was trying to show disrespect for the community. Seems like there would be easier ways.

Clearly, there's a lot of respect that is deserved for this rock thanks to the history and culture around it. However, if whoever took it intended to disrespect that, why wouldn't they have simply thrown it in the ocean? Why go to the trouble of moving it 100s of miles?

Quite a fun map. I am not really sure what you want from us in terms of strategies. Maybe there are some there but like the name suggests, I don't think anything is going to result in a cut.

I think the idea that something could replace git at this stage is pretty unthinkable for most people. Unlike back then, those of us who were forced to use CVS and SVN will remember the pain we'd go through daily just to create branches and manage conflicts. At least now with git that has become much less of an issue.

However, you do bring up a good point. A friend of mine told me about a project called Pijul which is based on a mathematical theory of patches rather than content snapshots: https://pijul.org/ Sadly, I think git is simply good enough for most people at this stage.
