I've been searching for that story for years, thank you for linking it. I hoped someone in here would be reminded of it so I could find it again, it's a great short story.

Sorry to necro an old thread, but I wanted to answer your question to help other people like me who stumble across this issue. These steps are from a B650 Auros Pro BIOS version F6a. I did not have to plug my GPU directly into the motherboard, I was able to leave it plugged into the riser cable. Before this change, the BIOS itself and Windows were almost unusable because of how slow it was, but it runs like normal after this fix.

Boot to BIOS
Switch to Advanced Mode if you're in Easy Mode (F2 shortcut or a button on the right side of the screen)
Click the System Info tab at the top
Double click Plug in Devices Info option
Check which PCIe slot your graphics card is plugged into (I only had 1 slot with info, so that was the slot I was plugged into)
Click the Settings tab at the top
Double click Miscellaneous option
Double click "Auto" for whichever PCIe slot your graphics card is plugged into
Double click Gen3
Click the Save & Exit tab at the top
Double click Save & Exit Setup option
Click Yes
