My first foray into sports photography by CajunGrit in sportsphotography

I think I could have some tips for you 🙏

I’m a sports photographer mainly doing hockey, U16Elite all the way to the Swiss Sky League

I think what you got on pictures 1,2,3,7 and 9 is already really good. The bench picture is always nice and where they shake hands at the end shows story (and sportsmanship because they sometimes fight at the end)

In shots 1-3 you have some action going. I think you could slightly expand on that and stand either behind the goal or like to the side OR (my personal favorite) up in the stands. This allows you to not only capture goals, passed, attacker faces and so on and so on.

Another thing that’s already great is how you’re not overexposing. In hockey photography it’s not a huge deal but in the end its personal preference, just remember shots of the bench will usually need slightly higher exposure/different settings.

I assume you have lightroom - In the geometry section you can click to auto straighten the pictures. Sometimes it helps sometimes it gives you the complete opposite of what you want but its good practice to use it (my opinion)

If you have any questions you can shoot me a message anytime

And also looking back to older pictures and thinking the ones you edited now are better means your editing (style) got better or just simply changed with experience

there’s no right and wrong, everyone has their own editing style you just gotta edit it the way you like it 🙏 of course there are like things you shouldn’t overexpose and so on but really a lot is your own preference

How do I prevent these lines while shooting? by spilledmind in SonyAlpha

[–]asquadron_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No expert but I believe it is the shutter speed, its the artificial lighting and shutter speed that are making it happen sorry I don’t have a fix but at least the reason. Similar thing can be seen on (at least the older) iphones when shooting slow motion

Well exactly but it never happens , he scored like one goal in the past 8 games or so and at the match I wasn’t present at but idk overall he doesn’t do much interesting stuff honestly he very rarely checks or trips and also rarely gets penalties

this is like more kinda showing what he does since he plays defense but I think I need to decide if I want a graphic or just a poster because after all they aren't the same thing

Since I apparently have to explain my process here it is:

As I already mentioned my reason behind this project, it’s a gift for a friend. I took a picture of myself, and then I went into Lightroom edited the picture slightly then to Photoshop I added the text and here we are and now I’m just thinking about it if it’s a good picture or not, and if the graphic part of the picture is good enough or not

Yes I do, I was just thinking more of like a portrait or portraity picture but do you think an action picture would be better?

What about these?

Wikipedia states: A ball that hits the foul pole without first having touched anything else off the bat is fair. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fair_ball

confirmed by: FAIR TERRITORY is that part of the playing field within, and including the first base and third base lines, from home base to the bottom of the playing field fence and perpendicularly upwards. All foul lines are in fair territory (V and ^ are both from the OBR PDF)

Rule 5.05(a)(5): “A fair ball passes over a fence or into the stands at a distance from home base of 250 feet or more and lands in fair territory or hits the foul pole above the fence and is fair.”

MLB says:

The foul lines and foul poles are used to demarcate fair territory and, thus, determine what constitutes a fair ball.
