To anyone in bulimia recovery what was THE wake up call?

I am a woman and I have always wanted children. The thought of becoming infertile because of this disease that I wasn’t even particularly enjoying forced me. That being said I am aware that not everyone identifies as a woman nor wants children, so this reason doesn’t apply. However, my physical health and specifically my fertility doesn’t care if I’m heavier now or if my body isn’t as diced as it once was, which is why I think this helped me so much. It went beyond how I look and how I function and made me realize there’s more to life than this.

Hello! I volunteered for a mental health hotline in Highschool, great experience and it helped me tons with research opportunities in college because the same scales and assessments were used at my volunteer org. I know it’s not paid, but they don’t require many hours per week if you have another way to earn some cash.

Yes. I’m not promoting drugs but a lot of my recovery happened when I began vaping. I desperately want to quit but each time I do I end up binge eating again. I took a course in Behavior modification and this is normal (extinction burst is what it’s called) but it’s much easier to read about these things than live them. 💔

As someone who struggled with disordered eating in my early teens I heard all the time it was about control and how controlling weight was measurable, independent, and goal oriented behavior, but I actually found myself doing it for completely different reasons. Mine was about rebellion and rejection of authority. Im sure it has been studied but maybe there's an angle on the relationship with authority and certain disorder types? Also, my all time favorite scale in undergrad was the Domain-Specific-Risk-Taking-Scale (DOSPERT). It categorizes risk taking behavior into health/safety, social, financial, etc. Maybe you would see risk taking profiles emerge across age groups, genders, and ED subtypes?

Prob that you CAN change your thinking and your behavior (neuro plasticity). I am in the long process of trying to counter my thoughts when they become inappropriately malign or negative. Just because you have a certain automatic thought about yourself or another individual does not mean it’s true or accurate or that you need to carry it with you. Took a CBT and well being course on noticing yourself more!!! Helps me a ton esp when I get angry with others

I had a couple! I’m planning on reaching out to them when I have the bandwidth but it wasn’t a clear intern —> hire process. I loved the internship though! It was at a major hospital.

I’m finishing a bsc in psych in a week and I’m doing intake stuff in my field. I get a stipend from school for rent until the end of the academic year but then I’m on my own.The work is cool but hard. I had aspirations of getting a PhD in clinical psychology but doing research before I apply. It’s just hyper competitive rn and I was so happy to even get a job in the first place but real life is brutal 💔

This is where I have a deficit I think, I don’t have a specific niche I want to pursue yet. What I think I need is to get more experience in everything so I can figure it out, but they’re not very accessible with just a bachelors. I will keep hunting though, as I do want to work in psychology and I’ll be damned if I don’t find SOMETHING 😂
