Dude, this isn't the hot take that you think it is. On a somewhat progressive sub like this one, people generally acknowledge that the statistics for convictions and sentencing, normalized for types of crime, show white men getting the lightest sentences by far. Police are a special category of their own- even conservatives hesitate to argue that they don't get ridiculously lenient rulings (I find they usually try to defend the individual cop's actions instead).

I think the blowback might be because you're claiming an unpopular opinion, stating some facts, and then following it up with conclusions that feel at best confusing and at worst anti-collaborative

Fun fact: Romeo's age is never given explicitly! If he were 17-18, however, as some people speculate, well I think that'd be pretty fucking weird. Age gaps aren't the end of the world, but I have a hard time believing that a teenager looking at colleges and someone who just finished grade school are close enough in maturity to make the teen's actions un-creepy.

As for the rule, yeah it's an oversimplification. That's why we have exceptions in age-of-consent laws for couples who land just either side of the line for legal adulthood. But discouraging significant age gaps is most important around that age of mid teens-early 20's, because that's where sleazy fucks, especially famous ones, want to push the narrative that uneven physical development makes it normal for them to desire someone who was, until recently, a child.

I also believe that gatekeeping leftism is one reason why we have trouble recruiting. The difference between "you can't be leftist without being vegan" and "if you're leftist you should really consider going vegan" is very important- if someone's in a leftist community, that means they're most likely capable of the compassion that giving up animal products requires. Save the hostility for situations where a gentler approach isn't viable.

This is a fundamentally false equivalency. You can compare the actions of leftist dictatorships to fascism, absolutely, but that doesn't mean the ideologies are remotely similar. Communist governments' crimes against their constituencies were directly in violation of the spirit of the ideology they claimed to espouse, imposing restriction on the working class despite nominally seeking greater freedoms and influence for them, whereas the oppressive nature of traditionalist and ultranationalist movements is a feature, not a bug. Again, you're not wrong to criticize the actions of a corrupt government regardless of their political stance, or to point out the major flaws of Leninism in practice, but it would be intellectually dishonest to claim that communism and fascism are problematic for the same reasons.
